  1. #disintermediation is not only a commercial thing.

"“It truly destroyed me knowing that you had to suffer and cancel your class and received hate from horrible people,” one man wrote. “I feel somehow that you are part of my family, and I regret it."

Anik Talukder, a 28-year-old south Asian man living in the United Kingdom, said he apologized at least 10 times to Schmidt-Hori after accepting her Zoom invitation to discuss his Reddit post about her."

  2. @dankennedy_nu The only reason I tune into Sinclair WCSH-13 in Maine is to watch the Colbert show.
And I would miss the PPH if Sinclair took over.
Tried to (re)create a paid subscription to PPH and their website fought me, I gave up. With the takeover of media by Oligarchs, paid subscriptions are not their goal.

As is the payment processor that Patreon uses to interact with your bank account. There are so many layers of intermediaries clipping the ticket.

I can totally sympathise with the CryptoBugs who want to make payments P2P. Problem is, DeFi is full of ticket-clipping grifters too.

Platforms have emerged as the endemic form of internet-based business, which is ironic, because a platform is just an intermediary - a company that connects different groups to each other. The internet's great promise was "#disintermediation" - getting rid of intermediaries. We did that, and then we got a whole bunch of new intermediaries.

Configurability was at the heart of early hopes for mass #disintermediation, because audiences and performers (or sellers and producers) could go direct to one another, assembling a customized, un-capturable conduit composed of an a-la-carte selection of payment processors, webstores, mail and web hosts, etc.
