Sorting through my digital media in preparation for some hard drive repair and replacement. Finding that I have:
- multiple Ubuntu 16.x & Windows 7 ISOs
- miscellaneous Minecraft .jar files from 2013
- I don't know how many pdf of Cisco IOS 12.x releases
- thousands of O'Reilly pdfs from books published before 2010 (Practical mod_perl is gonna come in handy real soon now!)I'm not the mutherfuckin' Internet Archive! 🤣

Sorting through my digital media in preparation for some hard drive repair and replacement. Finding that I have:
- multiple Ubuntu 16.x & Windows 7 ISOs
- miscellaneous Minecraft .jar files from 2013
- I don't know how many pdf of Cisco IOS 12.x releases
- thousands of O'Reilly pdfs from books published before 2010 (Practical mod_perl is gonna come in handy real soon now!)I'm not the mutherfuckin' Internet Archive! 🤣

Newsletter subscriptions, bookmarks, online services/apps, etc.
Some serious cleanup is needed. I'm starting by going through my first gmail account and unsubscribing or changing my email address to what I use now.
Man, this is gonna take a while!

Are we all secret digital hoarders? It's easy to think that thousands of family photos, numerous emails and forgotten screenshots are just floating around in the cloud somewhere. Makes me think as well, that maybe I _don't_ want to automatically delete my writing here as it is currently set up. Is it #DigitalHoarding, fear (or other emotion) of letting go? Or searching for some sort of digital continuity? Using :mastodon: or blogs as easy journals instead of actual journals? Probably all of the above, and there's no right answer anyways, just doing one, the other, or none of them, most likely.

After four decades of keeping most digital artifacts I've created (code, essays, notes, images, sites, tweets/toots, email, etc) I'm sidling up to the idea that I can simply let go of all of it except for a few photos from each year. Have you done this? If so, how did it go? #digitalHoarding
