Here’s a sketch I’ve been working on, based on a detail from the painting The Raising of the Daughter of Jairus by Renaissance artist Veronese. It’s a very rough approximation. But, I’ve had an absorbing time working on it. Drawn freehand on my iPad Pro using the Sketch Club app. About six and a half hours of work total. I’ll share a photo of the original painting as a comment. #digitalart #ipadart #digitalartapp #sketchclubapp
Whether or not you believe the event really happened, it is still a very moving story, from the Gospel according to Mark: ‘Jairus, one of the synagogue leaders, came forward. When he saw Jesus, he fell at his feet and pleaded with him, “My daughter is about to die. Please, come and place your hands on her so that she can be healed and live.” So Jesus went with him…Then, taking the child’s parents and his disciples with him, he went to the room where the child was. Taking her hand, he said to her, “Talitha koum,” which means, “Young woman, get up.” Suddenly the young woman got up and began to walk around. She was 12 years old. They were shocked!’ — Mark 5:22-24a — 40b-42 (CEB)

A sketch I’ve been working on for a few days, based on a detail from a painting of Saint Francis, c. 1600-1604, by Federico Barocci (c. 1535–1612), oil on canvas, in the collection of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York. I’m sharing the original work as a comment.

So today I did a sketch of a skull mask I found at a thrift store. Drawn freehand on my iPad Pro using the Sketch Club app. One hour 18 minutes total time. Had fun with it. Maybe I should title it “Keith Richards.” #digitalart #digitalartapp #ipadart #art

Earlier today, I visited the art museum and chose 2 different works to sketch. Both drawn freehand on my iPad Pro using the Sketch Club app. On the left, I put in 38 minutes; on the right 20 minutes. So they are not intended as finished works. I may go back a few more times to further develop the sketch on the left. We’ll see. #sketchclubapp #digitalart #digitalartapp #ipadart #ipadartapp
On the left, based on a painting of Saint Cecilia, c. 1626, by Simon Vouet (1590-1649), and on the right, based on a small sculpture, Saint Augustine’s reliquary, Mexico, c. 1650.
