Played some #boardgames yesterday. A couple of them I even liked.

We started out with #DiceThrone. I hate this game. Too much time is spent reading over a dizzying array of symbols, rules, cards, turn orders, sequences, and timings. I just want to roll some freakin' dice already! And you barely get to do any of that.

Next, we played some #CatLady. Fun little game. Super cute. Highly recommend.

Then we played some #CastlesofMadKingLudwig. This is one of my favorite games. I should really buy a copy.

And lastly, I finally got a chance to play #Agricola. I did a terrible job, but I loved every second of it.

Winter - All my various worlds converted to the Cypher System.

It has been a while. Between end-of-semester busyness and car reconstruction, there has been little work done on various 2024 projects.

However, I was able to complete the first in a series of probability calculations for Dice Throne.

If you play the game, it is specifically the probability of some minions to roll a success. Since DT uses symbols, the calculations take a bit of doing.

The other main reason for this project is to have an easier way to test and play with homebrew encounters. Thanks to the wonderful homebrew Dice Throne community, it is really easy to use templates to make your own minions and bosses.

Again, playtest was largely successful, but a bit more to do.

Side note: I create these threaded conversations to help with brevity. I plan to bring back the blog or switch to Medium as all my random projects begin to come together.

Every 4th tile I place, gain loot that matches the type of tile. e.g. A level 2 encounter tile would provide a level 2 loot.

Once I place the correct number of tiles, I choose a random level boss.

In playtesting, I realized that I still need to work out the healing salves and acquiring the three 'keys' to unlock the boss portal. The more 'keys' you have, the more effective healing salves become.

Anyway, I found that I could do an entire crawl in about 40 minutes. 5/

The changes I made are:

Based on the level of the crawl, take three specific encounter tiles.

Roll 2d6 to determine the total number of tiles for this crawl. This includes the three from the first step.

Roll d20 to determine encounter type for each tile as I work through the crawl. I place a random tile or one of the preselected tiles of the appropriate type on the board.

I must use the three preselected tiles before facing the boss of that level. 4/

The RAW map tells me the approximate loot and power level of encounters at first glance. On the positive side, though, the rewards for the encounters can be very swingy. You could get a simple +1 to the next attack or a powerful card that seriously upgrades your character, even for a lower level encounter.

For solo play, I don't want to know what's coming. I want to know that I could face a number of high level encounters if the dice roll a certain way. 3/

With the coming of Dice Throne Missions, many believe that Dice Throne Adventures will no longer be supported.

Adventures feels a lot like a dungeoncrawl - defeat enemies and collect loot. The campaign ends when you defeat the Big Bad.

The setup takes a bit of work, but I enjoy it immensely.

The first two X-Men Dice Throne characters have been revealed: Wolverine and Psylocke.

The most interesting aspect of Psylocke is using a special 6th dice that can do extra damage or substitute for any one die in the roll result.

Made it to my monthly paycheck today. Woot! Thanks to my wife, we pulled all kinds of shenanigans to get here.

I plan to do a lot of writing and gaming during my upcoming two week vacation. Woot!

There will be a Dice Throne campaign and a Cypher System campaign. I also hope to get a chunk of the Rogue from Nowhere written.

The family completed the first session of the Dice Throne Adventures campaign. Not a bad scorre (26). Next stop, the Fallen Gunslinger.

I played the Paladin, and the kids were Thor and Black Panther.

I didn't add any homebrew minions or bosses in this one.

This game — and the normal, non-Adventure version — are just so good. We’re already itching to start again!

Geekery of the Day: #BoardGames #DiceThrone I have grown to love this game. It even has an adventure mode where you can play together instead of versus. Exceedingly well done game.

At first I really liked #DiceThrone, but the more I play it, it seems like there’s less strategy and more just rolling dice hoping for results. I’m certain multi-player is too random, but I think 1v1 is still maybe interesting.
