"The marks were unlike damage caused by carnivores, chewing activities during the life of the animals, or natural processes...Researchers believe the origin of these marks may be related to the use of teeth as soft hammers or anvils when working hard materials, such as stone tools"
Had always wondered how stone-age stone-working could sometimes be so precise and careful! eg wondrous #Orkney #petrospheres #dentalwork?

  3. At almost 15, Franklin Delano Roosedog has survived two major surgeries: Having ten teeth removed last week, and having a Kevlar ligament replace his torn one, some years ago. 5. Made it to El Paso. Fuck the construction on I10 is a nightmare! Anyways waiting for the shuttle. I have both my passport and passport card so hopefully that will be enough for immigration! Hahahaha #dentist #DentalWork #JuarezMX

  6. I'm actually kinda looking forward to my trip next week down to #Mexico to get some #DentalWork done. Might take the opportunity to make a detour to #Carlsbad and spend the night so I can check out the #caves the following day. I was 9 years old the last time I went there (with my dad). While I was too young to appreciate everything at the time I really did have a good time and enjoyed it. My dad and I camped and stayed in a tent in Carlsbad National Park and the night we were there a huge thunderstorm came through. I remember feeling both scared and exhilarated at the storm at the same time.

Why am I going down to Mexico for dental work?

Because a teeth cleaning, filling, and a new crown is costing me $580. Even with my dental insurance that would easily be $1600+ at my dentist back in Atlanta. I just frankly can't afford him any more (as much as I love him and his practice).

  7. Good morning and happy Tuesday #Fediverse

Let's discuss our day today and what the plans are.

For me, I'll be heading to the dentist to get a major cleaning done where they pull the gums from your teeth and clean deeply. Getting the right side done this time. I'll be totally numb for several hours.

Took the day off today and tomorrow for this, so not much else is planned.

  12. Ugh. Another #crown. Another $1000. Jesus Christ. And this is not a new crown. This is to replace an older gold crown that apparently has a hole in it that has allowed decay to seep through. Fucking hell! #dentist #dentalwork

  14. Dear Mastodon, I really want to pay for new teeth for my husband. ❤️
If you could kindly take a look and share the fundraiser, it would mean the world to me!

  17. CW: Dental work adjacent

Not sure how the root canal will treat me in the days to come, but at the moment I can at least say today is the first time in a week or more where the simple pressure of flossing between the crown tooth and its neighbor doesn't cause me pain. I'm pretty certain the assistant didn't get my bite right, though, which would mean more jaw agony in the days to come. I expressed my concern, and that my bite felt too high, but she blew it off and sent me home anyway. I cried on the drive home - mostly from the trauma of dental work because I hate it, but also from feeling completely dismissed and knowing if she is wrong and I am right, I'm in for a world of pain again.

If I do need a bite adjustment (again), I'm definitely going to ask my regular dentist to do it. They're leagues ahead in terms of compassion, comfort, and patient agency. I'll see them next week for a permanent crown, and boy do I hope that's all!

  18. Tomorrow I'm getting a new crown put in. I counted. This makes crown #5. All molars. I had a filling that broke off in my 1st molar and because the way the filling was on the lingual side of my tooth my dentist said he couldn't fix it and would need to do a crown.

And maybe because it was my first molar and not the 2nd molars like my 4 other crowns but this one was a much rougher experience than the other four.

I should have known something was up when while my dentist was cleaning away the filling that broke off and I needed more anesthesia than normal. (I probably could have gotten away without it but my dentist prides himself on his patients not feeling any pain.)

    Also, the NO2 helped.

    A lot.

    Love the NO2.

    I digress.

So that was over a week ago. Almost 2 weeks ago now. And the first week was, to put it mildly, ***rough***.

I was in more pain in my lower jaw and he didn't even touch that!

At one point I was probably consuming 1200mg of ibuprofen & 2000mg of tylenol for a couple of days.

And for the past week I've been having to take 800mg of ibuprofen and 1000mg of tylenol (half in the morning, and half when I go to bed).

I've got a compressed disc in my back so I'm used to taking the ibuprofen/tylenol cocktail every night just so I can sleep.

But it was crazy that the pain was radiating all throughout my lower jaw and all the drilling was done on my upper molar. LOL.

Anyway, can't wait for it all to be over tomorrow.
