Sommigen gaven daar even gehoor aan om later toch stilletjes terug te keren naar Big Tec.

Nu werden velen even wakker geschud door onze afhankelijkheid van Amerikaanse Big Tec en komt er weer een #doeidag en andere varianten op gang.

Ik vergeet er vast nog een paar, maar er is voor elke Amerikaanse en Closed Source toepassing wel een Europees en Open Source alternatief.

Wat ik merk is dat veel mensen bang zijn voor dat wat ze niet kennen en daarom niet (geheel) durven over te stappen.
(sommigen interesseerd het gewoon geen reet en is gemak het enige dat telt)

Eventuele angst is ongegrond en als we met heel Europa massaal overstappen is de macht van Big Tec snel gebroken en verloopt de ontwikkeling van alternatieven veel soepeler en sneller.

We have so many ways to keep in touch with friends and family members. Phone, text, and email are all convenient. None require anyone to be subjected to algorithm-favored content, ads, or the whims of a billionaire.

I left Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter and haven't lost touch with a single person I care about. I regained hours of my time every week. I also spend a lot less time feeling angry. #DeleteMeta

Earlier this summer I received a warning from Meta Quest that my 19 year old account was being used by a child.* They wanted me to confirm my age by sending them a photo of a government ID or credit card, which I was reluctant to do. Hence they suspended my Facebook, Instagram and Messenger account, I let the reactivation period lapse.

I'm actually glad it happened, this was the push I needed to de-Facebook my life. Luckily I had already downloaded and deleted most of my data from the services.

* I still don't know what caused this, it could be that my kids' use of a Quest headset on my account was analyzed in some way.

Thoughts on Xitter

I (sadly) still see people posting links to X here on Mastodon, even if their intentions are good. For example, if someone is trying to draw attention to something terrible posted over on Xitter, or to share an important news story that they happened to read there. (First of all though, why are they *still* using Xitter?)

ANYWAY… even if you have the best of intentions, please stop driving traffic over to Xitter! All you need to do is either grab a screenshot and post it here, or copy the link to the *actual* story that was posted on Xitter and post *that* here.

You can still draw attention to things that were posted on Xitter without having to drive traffic there, nor drive traffic *through* there to the actual desired news site.

(P.S. This also applies to anything Meta. Let’s stop feeding those beasts with traffic and links. That can be siphoned off, and we can still discuss them as needed without inadvertently helping bad actors.)
