@clacke I originally thought #December6'th was the birthday of #SaintNicholas of #Myra, but according to Wikipedia it's actually his death date «(traditionally 15 March 270 – 6 December 343)»
From what I understand, originally you'd place your shoe and sing songs on the night of #December5'th, and find the gifts the next morning on #December6th.
As a result of increased prosperity & commercialisation, it became more common to have small gifts in the shoes in the weeks up to the 5th
