if you've never seen them, it's a pretty important piece of anime/nerd history as well as being a sign of nerd culture in the 1980s. yes, fan conventions would make music videos for fun, and use all kinds of copyrighted stuff without permission
the first 90 seconds of the video from 1981 is rough; the second longer video from 1983, you can see why they went on to become professionals. and, of course, ELO!
