Happy Second Birthday to my little miracle girl ❤️
Exactly one year ago today I was preparing to say goodbye to her. My 12-year-old dachshund had her first severe syncope episode. Her heart rate went over 200, and several times she completely lost her pulse.
I spent that entire weekend doing CPR on her, genuinely believing she wouldn't survive until Monday.
She's been living with dilated cardiomyopathy for seven years. On Monday the vet was honest with me - either euthanize her at the clinic or take her home and let her pass surrounded by her family.
I chose the second option. I wanted her last moments to be in a place she knew and loved.
I monitored her breathing and heart rate every 30 minutes, kept a diary, gave her all the medication, and even syringe-fed her water.
A few more times I thought I had lost her.But slowly, stubbornly, she started coming back. She began to stand, then walk, then eat again. Her numbers stabilized.
And today - exactly one year after the day I almost let her go - she’s now 13 years old, running around the house, playing, and acting like her old self.
This photo was taken today while we celebrated her "second birthday".
I'm incredibly grateful she gave me one more year. I hope we get many more.

Late August means shorter days and, apparently, shorter dogs.

Emerald Downs does a yearly event called the "Wiener Dog and Wannabe Races", where dachshunds and similar short-n-long dogs run a 40-50 yard race on the same track the horses use. It's ridiculous, in the best possible way. The dogs are not all quite on the same page about what's going on, so when the flag drops it's frequently chaos. Short, fast, funny chaos. Most of them finish! Sometimes with a little encouragement and redirection, but still.
This was my second time attending, and first time bringing a real camera and longer lens. I absolutely intend on doing it again next year. A perfectly fine way to enjoy a late summer day.
There were also horses racing! I was there for the puppers, but managed to get a few shots of the equine persuasion.

toy story franchise by disney's marvel's viacom's pixar. Andy gets the sound of a barking puppy in TS1, has a weenie puppy in TS2 that helps Woody, and the puppy is old and fat in TS3A. Slinky is also a dachshund toy that appears in most TS movies. Do you think Andy adopted a dachshund cuz he liked his slinky?
