Texas lawmakers approved a strategic Bitcoin reserve that is to exist outside the state treasury but still under the investment authority of the Texas comptroller of public accounts.

The reserve is allowed to hold Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, but, only cryptocurrencies with an average market capitalization of $500B over a 12-month period can be included. All investments of the reserve require authorization by the legislature and the reserve may increase not only by direct purchasing but also by airdrops, forks, investment profit, or crypto donations.
