Hello and Welcome!

We have a fresh continuwuity release (26.8.1) out for you today. I recommend updating, there is a small security fix included. However, let's talk about what's new!

We have one more step towards "Matrix 2.0" (sticky events). Now we are only missing delayed events, which are just about done. We track the health of other servers, and stop sending them events when they're down (and start again, when we hear from them again). We've also fixed a lot of small bugs that should make rooms "behave better" from the client side.

Installed continuwuity. Fractal on my laptop worked. Element X showed weird errors. I was able to join the support room but not send any messages.

Uninstalled that shit. Not gonna touch it again.

I always thought that these loudly queer software projects where everything's plastered with pride flags, anti-authority messaging and copious amounts of swear words were obviously also going to be anti-AI.

So I was extremely surprised to see something like #continuwuity on the list of slopware with machine-generated commits and "AI code reviews".

That's so strange.

The #Continuwuity #Matrix server has just hit 1,000 stars! I can't thank everyone enough for the constant support of the project, from code, documentation and moderation to guides and recommendations. Here's to another thousand, and to another 18 months of awesome.

Sable as client and Continuwuity as server allow for the smoothest Matrix experience I've seen so far. Continuwuity now left zerover (v0.x) territory[1], becoming quite stable, and quite performant too if you use the maxperf version on x86. And Sable's Sliding Sync support for Continuwuity is now stable[2]. And there are now Android builds for Sable[3] because the Tauri 2.0 integration was merged. (Sable is the only Matrix client to have support for systems, by the way![4])(And Continuwuity fixes the infamous <Unable to decrypt message> issues really well using Dehydrated Devices![5])

And Sable is beautiful and super customizable. Honestly a pretty good time to be using Matrix :)

How has nobody made a #Yunohost app for #Continuwuity yet?! Considering how lightweight it is compared to Synapse, I'm surprised that Yunohost people haven't adopted it yet.
(I know stuff takes time and energy, i'm not blaming anyone, I'm just surprised)

@mwichary Server software I self-host, like #continuwuity, #gotosocial, #stalwart and #tailscale (amongst others) just keeps getting better for each release! And it’s also a joy to be in their respective matrix rooms and follow the development, and having the possibility to get support, suggest things and even contribute, is just awesome!

We're so so close to the next #Continuwuity release and it's gonna be so big. Massive reliability increases, OIDC and next gen Auth support, bridge features, sync improvements, disk space reductions, and more

Does #Commet not play nice with #Continuwuity or something? When I put "app.federated.nexus" in the homeserver field, it just displays a red x.

I see Cinny and FluffyChat recommended for it instead, but I'd really prefer a Discord-like option.

Continuwuity v0.5.6 is hot off the press! Continuwuity is a chat server for communities that speaks Matrix - and our community has grown a lot recently.

This release we have a couple of small security improvements, as well as improvements to performance & reliability across federation, end-to-end encryption, appservices and URL previews! Take a gander at our release notes for more about that.

geez deleting your old #matrix server only to move from #conduit to #continuwuity and from a stupid subdomain to your main domain sure is fun

at least i think ill use it more actively now

and calls do *somewhat* work now

i hate that they only work with element (and on mobile only with element classic grrrr)

Just migrated my #Matrix server from #Tuwunel to #Continuwuity, the latter of which is hosted outside of GitHub.

Very happy to have moved over, especially with such a seamless transition!

@bjoern @homelab @homelab_de I’m very happy with #continuwuity myself! Resource usage is very minuscule. I’ve moved the server between different hardware a couple of times, and it runs well on basically anything. DB usage is about 3GB after a year with 4 active users, some in a few big rooms. I don’t use calling, but I did test setting it up, and it worked.

Fellow homelabbers, if i want to selfhost a Matrix Homeserver for max. 10 people (mainly family) what homeserver software should i use? The software should run on a small VPS with 2GB Ram and 60GB Storage. Working Voice Chat is essential for the kids while gaming.

Would you go with a full blown Synapse install or would you go with something like Continuwuity, Tuwunel or something completely different?

We've just released Continuwuity v0.5.5. Continuwuity is a chat server for communities that speaks Matrix - and as you can probably guess we've exploded in popularity over the past week or two. The amount of people in our community rooms doubled!

This release is mostly about bugfixes, but there are two things to get excited about. The first is that the last blocker for calling in the Element X mobile apps has been squished! If you've set up the prerequisite service, you can now make calls from your phone.

The other is that we've greatly improved the first run experience - registering a first account is easier, and contexual help is presented where possible.

I would heavily encourage reading the changelog, and upgrading. Again, welcome to all of our new community members!

It's icy and cold out there, but what's knocking at the door? It's a new Continuwuity release!

Continuwuity 0.5.2 is out now with some handy new features! I think it's some some real hits this time. We now integrate with Meowlnir and Draupnir to perform server-wide invite anti-spam, so you don't have to lift a finger to deal with those unwanted invites. We've also added limited use registration tokens that you can create from the admin room, so you can let your friend create an account - or build a more complicated pipeline.

We've added more features to help secure your server - you can configure admins in your configuration file now, and disable all users in your admin room being administrators. You can also lock user accounts as well as logging out all sessions for an account using an admin command.

I want to mention Continuwuity Matrix homeserver, which I've just installed to replace Synapse. It's still in beta, with v0.5 just released, but which does feel stable and quite close to production ready.
Matrix is something I've wanted to get into, and a year or whatever ago, I tried Dendrite, but homeserver projects tend to get abandoned, so I ended up with Synapse anyway, like most people do. But then I didn't do anything with it.
Continuwuity is written in Rust, and is a hard fork of a hard fork, and in active development. As a single user, I prefer something like this running, and hope to see this project evolve into its own thing, and be important.
I think it's a project worth trying, or at least keeping an eye on.
