  3. CW: Dismal grocery stores

#Safeway has become just the most urgently dismal place. “People really need bar soap, and people really want booze, let’s put it all in an enclosed store within the store so we can underpay a second tier of humans to extract more wealth from the poor.”

I was checking out after a woman paying for a bar of soap with a #coinstar voucher (already a tax on the poor to have to redeem coins this way), and she only had one other dollar to pay, but the measly bar of soap was another $2 for some reason. The cashier was kind enough to contribute $2 of her own, but where did that come from?? I really hope it wasn’t the cashier’s own money.

  4. At the supermarket, the Coinstar machine was being serviced. I asked the technician about the weirdest things he found in the machines. He answered: batteries, bullets, and teeth. I told him I once found an SD card in the return slot. #coinstar

  5. It will never not bother me that freaking #Coinstar remains a profitable business.

  6. Who here uses ?

I bumped into a man at the grocery store who used the Coinstar machine to trade his change in for $1.00.

He put in $1.15 to cover the ~13% fee at this location. Coinstar took $0.64 (55.6%) of his , leaving him without the bill he was hoping for.

This is yet another business that preys on people.

The Coinstar machine at this grocery store is, appropriately, right next to a vending machine.
