Scotland has some strange and spooky places, but few were - until its clearance of offerings - stranger or spookier than the Clootie Well on the Black Isle north of Inverness, which had become a rather weird remnant of an ancient tradition. Saint Nectan's Kieve is a #ClootieWell (#HolyWell), located near #Tintagel in #Cornwall. Clootie wells are places of pilgrimage usually found in Celtic areas where small strips of cloth or ribbons are left as part of a healing ritual. The basin was also surrounded by #CoinTrees where offerings were pushed into the wet logs in the hopes of having a wish granted, or a prayer answered, by a nature spirit, saint or goddess.
