New stuff coming on line: Serrano Peppers and Armenian Cucumbers.

In Mexico, serranos are a preferred pepper for fresh eating, and I give most of mine away to friends from Mexico. I’ll dry some to make crushed red pepper.

The cucumbers are actually a weird form of melon that functions as a cucumber. I first tried these in Spain. They are a typical veggie in SE Spain, known as “alficoz” (or “alpicoz”).

  3. Here in New Mexico, we have a saying: Comida sin chile no es comida. Roughly: If it ain't spicy, it ain't food. I'm proud of my ability to consume fiery food. But, if you have read any Greek myths you know what pride gets you. Just like Zeus and his thunderbolts, this jar of Bà Nâm Cali was ready to correct my world view. 🥵 #peppers #chiles #Vietnam #food

  5. Chile’s 8 Best Vineyards And Wine Tours

Chile began making wine when the Spanish first arrived back in the 16th century, honing the craft considerably in the subsequent years. But it has been the last few decades which have seen th…

  6. Lunch break used to ponder chilli seeds.

I need to get some into dirt soonish.

I don't rush into this too much as I don't really think there's that big a difference between chillies germinated on 1st Jan vs 1st Feb with my climate and facilities. (May differ if you have ideal indoor growing conditions and time and organisation for a very responsive potting-on riegeme!)

The photo shows the seed pool I will pull from — almost all from Chilli Chump and Fatalii, plus Padrons from Nikki's. (I have other packets from some other suppliers but they're all "retired".)

The ones left of centre are previous years, the ones to the right are new supply for this year (except the far-right, wich are older).

Trying to limit to under 20 varieties. It is hard!

(Upside down bottom-centre did not grow true to type across multiple plants, but they were a highly prolific med-low heat red chilli that made great flakes, so not counted out yet, lots to pick from tho!)

  7. There's a kind of chile that is either called a pasilla or a poblano depending on who you ask. Pasilla is more common but my family always said poblano. The grocery I shop at in rural Arizona has mostly moved to self checkout so I was ringing up my order and without thinking about it rang my chiles as poblanos. I guess no one ever updated the price on the poblano side because the two big chiles I got for lunch ended up costing 6¢.

  8. I made a small batch of pickled nopales (cactus). So much better than store bought! I probably should have gone with serranos instead of jalapeños though. These don't have much heat. #food #cooking #nopales #peppers #chiles

  9. *BIG* Pepper Thread 1/🧵

I grew over 29 varieties of peppers in 2025. This thread reviews growth/productivity, cold tolerance and gives an honest detailed description of taste (fresh, dried and how it blends with other ingredients when cooking).

I hope people will find it useful for reference.

  10. ¡Jeeebus! In a life full of questionable decisions, poping a straight chiltepin has got to be up there. I would describe it as a faintly chile flavored with a lingering painful burn. I'm crying and my nose is running... I'm having a hard time focusing on my phone. #chiles #peppers #pain

  11. My wild chiltepins are starting to ripen! I'm sorta tempted to just pop one in my mouth... #gardening #chiles #peppers

  12. Aji Rojo jam! It ended up having a lot of red bell pepper because the aji peppers aren't very juicy. Either way, it tastes delicious and the leftovers in the pan are already setting. #food #chiles #peppers #preserving #cooking

  13. Chopping chiles and listening to The KLF, just like God intended. #food #chiles #klf #peppers

  14. We might actually see some freezing temps here. I'm going to have to harvest my aji rojo chiles and prune the plant back so I can bring it indoors. I've probably got a pound or two of these small red chilies. Aji Rojo isn't spicy but otherwise tastes like a habanero. They keep well but I'm not going to eat them all before they go bad. What should I do with them? #food #chiles #peppers #gardening #preserving

  15. For breakfast, a stack of tortillas and hobbit cholos (habichuelas rosadas, con permiso Puerto Rico) topped with tomatoes, onion and my yummy aji rojo chiles. #food #beans #breakfast #chiles #peppers

    Pepper experiments 🧵1/3

So far the greenhouse hasn’t gotten below 40F/4C. Here are how the peppers are faring:

  17. My wild chiltepin from cerro Fresnal down on the Arizona border is setting fruit! I can't wait to try them! With wild chiles, you never know what you're going to get but chiltepin are often quite spicy! #food #chiles #peppers #Arizona #gardening

  18. My aji rojo chiles are starting to ripen. They look super scary but they aren't actually all that hot (ymmv). They have that fruity habanero flavor but more of a soft numbing heat than that typical burn. I chopped one up and mixed into the veggies on my beans and tortillas. Yum! #food #chiles #peppers #breakfast

  19. The "aji" chile peppers that we got from the seed exchange are starting to ripen. They're going directly from green to purple. I'll be curious to try one. Hopefully they aren't deadly since the plants are super productive and I've got a ton of chiles coming on.
