I posted this in my main Discord group, where a bunch of the guys are really into #cartalk, thinking that they might find it interesting/useful.
One of them replied, “Couldn’t you just mess then with fuse or the relays to accomplish this?”
To which I responded, “You cannot possibly be asking *me* this question.”

listening to old NPR #CarTalk episodes, and oh lord, it’s so wholesome. The poor guy who accidentally left a sock in the engine intake manifold during an injector change, and then drove the car without removing it. The discussion travels to whether it’s a cotton, or nylon blend, and just letting it burn out.

Only 50%? I'd have thought it'd be a lot higher. I've only ever met maybe 3 people who own cars with automatic gearboxes.
People say they're just too expensive (both to purchase and to maintain), they're too difficult/scary to learn, people are worried they'll keep accidentally hitting the brake when they mean to hit the clutch... and people don't trust automatic things to change gears; they say that's a human decision.
Just some of the reasons I've heard against automatic cars. People just seem to really dislike them, or even the very idea of them.
At least, the people I've spoken to.
If you drive a car in South Africa, is it an automatic or a manual?

I cannot understate my love of the dashboard controls on the Ineos Grenadier. This is a car made in 2024. It’s wonderfully mechanical.
Not ready to give up the reliability of my 200 Series Land Cruiser, but man, I love that they’re leaning into old school.
And yes, an EV-version is on the way.
