  1. With @Taweret 's posts yesterday, I am wondering if backhoes are the carcinisation of construction equipment.

  2. Also seen at the air and space museum visit -- GIANT SPIDER CRAB! 🦀

This, of course, reminded me of our episode on the #zodiac #constellation Cancer where Jordan taught me about how evolution keeps producing #crabs (or more formally carcinisation) 🦀 🦀 🦀

Check out our season 1 episode featuring the #astronomy & #mythology of the constellation Cancer ♋ PLUS a Creature Corner segment about CRABS here: starrytimepodcast.podbean.com/

  3. #KnowledgeBit: #Carcinisation is a form of convergent evolution where crustaceans evolve a crab-like body plan from non-crab ancestors, a process coined by L. A. Borradaile as "Nature's many attempts to evolve a crab".

  4. @MLE_online Thinking about this with Metabo weirds me out because now they're part of Hitachi, and the former Hitachi power tools grew Metabo names. Gradually, we all converge to CRAB

    > When the French Academy was preparing its first dictionary, it defined "crab" as "A small red fish which walks backwards."

    > This definition was sent with a number of others to the naturalist Cuvier for his approval. The scientist wrote back:

    > "Your definition, gentlemen, would be perfect, only for three exceptions. The crab is not a fish, it is not red, and it does not walk backwards."

Also, a friendly reminder of carcinisation, "the many attempts of Nature to evolve a crab."

  10. @lowqualityfacts That would actually be amazing. At least one hand. Like the crustaceans with one claw bigger than the other. #Carcinisation

  11. @moira @Taweret
I feel that I've learned lots of important new (and highly precise and accurate) Crab Science from this film. Thank you all!

  12. Sleepy morning thought:

Carcinisation is where nature keeps turning things into crabs.

This makes me wonder if there's a linguistic equivalent to keep turning words into crabs.

  13. @pluralistic Incidentally, H.G. Wells clearly anticipated the discovery of #carcinisation in "The Time Machine". His nightmare vision of the world of the far future features a tidally-locked Earth populated by monstrous crabs.

Wells didn't mention hedge funds, but the Time Traveler was sufficiently horrified by the crabs that he fled without stopping to ask about the basics of their economy.

  14. > I feel like there are now three constant processes in our world:

    > 1) #Carcinisation - everything evolves to become a crab

    > 2) #Financialization - eventually all business eventually turn into finance firms.

    > 3) #Enshitification - all producers eventually strip-mine their reputations.

  15. On the twelfth day of Christmas my true love sent to me
    Twelve fiddler crabs drumming
    Eleven hermit crabs parping
    Ten lightfoot crabs leaping
    Nine blue crabs dancing
    Eight horseshoe crabs milking
    Seven velvet crabs swimming
    Six red crabs laying
    Five golden crabs
    Four calling crabs
    Three tourteau
    Two turtle crabs
And a palm thief in a coconut tree
