I had an inference engine into which I had put a lot of mathematical knowledge evaluate this algorithm (carefully devised a few years ago by yours truly) and it declared the algorithm “state of the art”: https://rosettacode.org/wiki/B%C3%A9zier_curves/Intersections#Ada
The algorithm is stable and converges quadratically.
(Far be it from me to suggest using it instead of whatever is in your current application such as FontForge or Inkscape.)
