I should have a drum roll for last bottle moments. 🥁 A few years after Blankiet's founding, this 2001 vintage, with winemaker Helen Turley, helped make a new Napa cult. All Cab Sauv, it has held beautifully, years left.
Solid in the mid-palate, it shows the benefits of age. If not young and fruity, it has the subtler concentration of more nuanced fruit.
Velvety, tasty, classy and in a perfect moment, a Last Bottle Victory. 🤗 $175 then.

There are options - decent #Malbec or #Cabernet for $11-15. As good as JLohr and other Central Coast & #Mendocino wines that go for $20-25.

Labor Day was fruitful. :) This wasn't hard work at all.
A sexy vintage for Seavey, this 2001 is fruit forward now, concentrated and a little unctuous, relatively, not quite as powerful as some, but maybe richer. Still, it's Seavey and that means it opens, evolves, gets tighter and shows a backbone to support beautiful fruit. Don't forget velvety texture. Yeah, baby.
This won't be my last note on this lovely '01.

An iconic label, this year is mature, but still lively and bright, with a nicely aged Bordeaux feel to it in its medley of aromas and flavors.
A touch of cassis up front is countered by more mature nuances and complexity. The whole comes together beautifully, improving with air and lingering nicely on the lifted, elegant finish. It kept getting better. 13.4%.
Newer years, around $275, gulp? This 2000 might not cost much more if you find it somewhere.

I have and had a lot of vintages of Seavey, and I've often been less impressed with the 02 than some (that's relative!), but this bottle sure shows great. Deep, concentrated and powerful, it has plenty of pop on the finish, classic cassis nuances and relative youth. Intense and concentrated. About $60 then. Impressive. #wine #napa #cabernet

Why is it so hard to find Cabernet Franc in New England? I first tried it in the Maritimes, and then I found some at a winery in the Finger Lakes region. Wikipedia says it’s one of the twenty most popular styles worldwide. Apparently not near me! It’s not my favorite, but I will say it’s underrated. Heavy on deep grape and black currant, with notes of white or black pepper (I’m not a super-taster).

I am cooking dinner so I needed some company 2015 Schrader Cellars CCS Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon. Dark jammy fruit on the nose with a hint of leather on the nose, with currants, earth, and more leather on the palate. Nice finish.
