  1. The 7 Best Wines to Pair With Steak to Buy in 2026

Published on February 26, 2026 Michele Chiarlo, Paul Jaboulet Aîné, Spotswoode When we ask friends what wine they would pair with a steak, their obvious answer is red. But what might not be as obvious is that not all red wines pair perfectly with steak. There’s a bit of basi…

  2. This fine Lisboa region Reserva is modeled on the N. Rhone, a Syrah with a tiny dollop of Viognier. This was a big vintage and it's held beautifully, handling the alcohol (14.5%) & big fruit perfectly. There's a beefy nose, a hint of game and what I'd call graceful maturity, giving it nuance & finesse to go with depth. There's plenty of flavor too. It is surprisingly bright & fresh with grip on the finish still, more gorgeous with air. About $40-ish in new vintages

  3. 2/2, the conclusion

Power remains, and the nuanced fruit is no slouch. This easily holds up to much more expensive wines, a great performance at this age, better the next day. Needs food! 12.5% alc, at least on the label.

  4. Dense ruby red with intense purplish tints. An aromatic, spicy bouquet of pepper, cinnamon and cloves, enhanced by hints of cocoa and chocolate. On the palate, a powerful, round, structured and tannic attack. A well-balanced wine, powerful, fine and complex, with interesting potential.

  5. 20th anniversary of this...call it a holiday wine. Perfect for grilling.

Probably not intended to be a 20-year, but here we are. It's doing great, good years left. Juicy on the finish, there's still some grip too, plus pepper and a lot of that Syrah game. It's a fine performance with freshness for those who like Syrah with depth and character. Delicious, especially a little cool. 14.5%. Only $35 back then.

Inaugural bottle opened with my new Le Creuset screwpull. :) #wine #mendocino #syrah

  6. It's a very happy day when a phalanx of Synergy Shiraz from Thomas Wines invades my dining room!

Andrew Thomas, the eponymous Head Winemaker, is a passionate supporter of the Hunter Valley, and only produces wines from the Valley's two signature grapes: semillon and shiraz. The breadth of expressions is incredible, from blends to single vineyard, fruity youths to aged-released. And it's all just delicious!

  7. Wine Grape Vineyards in South Africa by Variety, 2013-2020. Overall, the South African vineyard area shrank by 7.7% - with larger drop for reds than for whites. Of main varieties, only Sauvignon Blanc (5.5%), Muscat +8.9%), and Pinot Noir (+7.1%) grew. Sharp drop for others. #southafrica #vineyards #PinotNoir #SauvignonBlanc #CheninBlanc #wine #grapevarieties #Pinotage #Syrah #Shiraz #Chardonnay
