From Wednesday to Sunday, I was at the Boston Underground Film Festival, my third year in a row. It was a great time! Here's my round up of the best of the fest.

I'm at #BUFF2026, so this excludes Wed and Thurs. The best stuff will be covered in my wrap-up next week.

So the week was front-loaded, and it was alright. Sony Animation continues to push mainstream animation, even as GOAT was mediocre narratively. The Exorcist 3 is easily my least favorite of the original trilogy. I Swear was a fairly standard biopic about a topic rarely portrayed so sensitively in movies. And Kiki remains really good.

A bit disappointed by the Boston Underground Film Festival scheduling this year.

The Friday and Saturday midnight showings overlap with other screenings, are in a neighboring city (albeit at an excellent theater), and end after the MBTA stops running.

Also sad about the omission of the music video block "Sound & Vision", although I get it, as it wasn't well attended the two years I went.
