The military operation is being conducted to prevent similar barbaric actions by the regime in Kyiv. Demilitarising Kyiv and depriving it of the ability to carry out such attacks is one of the objectives of the military operation.

As a reminder, in 2022 Ukraine did not even have technical means to conduct such attacks and could merely brace while Russian rockets targeted everything from schools to hospitals and power plants for four years. The best Ukraine could do in 2022 was to fire not very precise Soviet “Tochka-U” missile with range of ~120 km which it had a very limited stock.

Thanks to Russian “demilitarisation” efforts Ukraine now has long- and medium-range cruise missiles (Neptun), ballistic rockets (Flamingo), and dozens of brands of short-, medium- and long-range low-cost loitering munitions aka drones.
