  2. Dear Friends supporting millionaires in the UK,

    Not you? Me neither.

    - BritishEnergy (a govt initiative) is two years away for individuals. Priority being given to schools, hospitals and official buildings
    - Meanwhile the top 'essential' excutives such as Chris O'Shea and his boss at BritishGas are paying themselves millions in bonuses with even shareholders rebelling and people unable to pay.
    theguardian.com/money/2025/jan
    - BritishGas website advises going to their new 'improved' 'provide meter reading online service'. They cancelled and lost my account. Which I am happy to pay. But need an email (person) to contact.

Meanwhile they make up amounts, issue County Court Summons and effect peoples credit rating. Legalised crimminality? I would say yes.

    :nonazis: :cyber_hacking: :agummyhug:

I am not prepared for this madness. Too mad, senile and vulnerable as it is.

    Anyone have any useful advice?

At the moment I am putting in a counter claim with the help of the governments various services. No gas but I use electricity which BritishGas also supply.

    Any theguardian.com/money/2025/mar groups out there?

  8. I'm in shock with today's smart meter installation...installer phoned in advance, turned up when he said he would, minimised off time for electricity and gas, all done and dusted promptly... it's almost as if everything went the way you hope it would, a Christmas miracle! 🎄

Normal. Feels like an increasingly rare experience these days. I grumble enough when services are bad so on the flip side - well done Donald on behalf of British Gas 👏

Now back to my Grinch mode.

  9. @Chaotica

  10. British Gas: “Just a quick reminder - we'd love to know more about your recent experience of receiving a bill.”

What on earth do they expect me to say?

    “I LOVED GETTING A BILL!”
“I AM STOKED TO SEE HOW MUCH I PAY FOR ENERGY!”

Whoever thought this was a good idea needs their head felt. Sadly they have probably been promoted.

  11. From 2021: #Palestine’s forgotten oil and gas resources

A fair distribution of #Oil and gas resources in the Levant Basin will be needed to achieve a lasting political and economic settlement between Israel and Palestine.

Excerpt: "The prolonged closure and recurrent military operations in Gaza have left more than half the territory’s population living below the poverty line and cost $16.7bn in lost GDP annually. This figure does not account for the huge opportunity cost of preventing the Palestinian people from using their natural gas field off the shores of Gaza.

"The 1995 Israeli-Palestinian Interim Agreement on the #WestBank and #GazaStrip, known as the #OsloII Accord, gave the #PalestinianAuthority (PA) maritime jurisdiction over its waters up to 20 nautical miles from the coast. The PA signed a 25-year contract for gas exploration with the#BritishGas Group in 1999, and a large gas field, #GazaMarine, was discovered at 17 to 21 nautical miles off the coast of Gaza the same year. However, despite initial discussions between the Israeli government, the PA and British Gas on the sale of gas from this field and the provision of much-needed revenue to the occupied Palestinian territories, the Palestinians have not realised any benefits.

"Since the blockade of Gaza in 2007, the Israeli government has established de facto control over Gaza’s offshore natural gas reserves. The contractor, British Gas, has since been dealing with the Israeli government, effectively bypassing the Palestinian government regarding exploration and development rights.

"Israel has also taken control of the #Meged oil and natural gas field, located inside the occupied #WestBank. Israel states that the field lies west of the armistice line of 1948, yet most of the reservoir is situated beneath the #PalestinianTerritory occupied since 1967.

"More recently, Israel has begun to develop new oil and gas finds in the Eastern Mediterranean, solely for its own benefit.

"In commandeering and exploiting Palestinian oil and gas resources, Israel is acting in violation of the letter and the spirit of #TheHague Regulations, the Fourth #GenevaConvention and a body of international #humanitarian and #HumanRights law that addresses the exploitation of common resources by an occupying power, without regard for the interest, rights and shares of the #occupied population."

  16. Behind #Israel’s ‘#EndGame’ for #Gaza: Theft of #OffshoreGas reserves

    By Betsey Piette

"In 1999, #BritishGas (BG) discovered the existence of natural gas in the Gaza Marine fields, 20 nautical miles off the coast of Gaza, at a depth of 610 meters below the surface. Further exploration by BG through two successful wells — Gaza Marine 1 and Gaza Marine 2 — determined the field could contain up to 1 trillion cubic feet of natural gas. (EgyptOil-Gas.com, April 5, 2018)

"The Palestinian Authority was 'granted' the right to exercise sovereignty over its own maritime territory by the Oslo Accords in 1995. Four years later, following the findings of the offshore natural gas, the PA gave the international consortium BG a 25-year, 90% stake in a license to explore, develop any discovered fields, and install the required infrastructure. Since that time Israel has consistently blocked this development.

"In 2002, the PA approved BG’s proposals to construct a pipeline to a processing facility in Gaza. However, the Israeli state delayed this development, arguing that the pipeline should run to an Israeli-controlled port, and that Palestinians would have to supply Gaza Marine surplus fuel to Israel at far below market price.

"When Hamas won the Palestinian legislative elections in Gaza in 2007, Israel established a militarized naval blockade, prohibiting further offshore development. Around the same time, #YamThetis, an Israeli gas consortium, challenged the awarding of the contract to BG, further delaying the process.

"In December 2008, in total contravention of international laws, Israel declared sovereignty over the Gaza Marine area, and BG closed its offices in Tel Aviv.

"#RoyalDutchShell bought out BG’s interests in the #GazaMarineFields for $52 million in 2016. By March 2018, Royal Dutch Shell backed out of their investment, leaving the PA to search for a replacement company to develop the field. (EgyptOil-Gas.com, April 5, 2018)."

  21. French President #Macron says France will recognize #Palestine as a state

    By ANGELA CHARLTON
    Updated 9:34 PM EDT, July 24, 2025

PARIS (AP) — "French President Emmanuel Macron announced Thursday that France will recognize Palestine as a state, in a bold diplomatic move amid snowballing #GlobalAnger over people starving in #Gaza. Israel denounced the decision.

"Macron said in a post on X that he will formalize the decision at the U.N. General Assembly in September. 'The urgent thing today is that the war in Gaza stops and the civilian population is saved,' he wrote.

"The mostly symbolic move puts added diplomatic pressure on Israel as the war and #HumanitarianCrisis in the #GazaStrip rage. France is now the biggest Western power to recognize Palestine, and the move could pave the way for other countries to do the same. More than 140 countries recognize a #PalestinianState, including more than a dozen in Europe.

"The Palestinians seek an independent state in the occupied West Bank, annexed east Jerusalem and Gaza, territories Israel occupied in the 1967 Mideast war. Israel’s government and most of its political class have long been opposed to Palestinian statehood and now say that it would reward militants after Hamas’ Oct. 7, 2023, attack.

" '’We strongly condemn President Macron’s decision,’' Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in a statement. ‘'Such a move rewards terror and risks creating another Iranian proxy, just as Gaza became. A Palestinian state in these conditions would be a launch pad to annihilate Israel — not to live in peace beside it.' "

  24. I've spent the morning since 4.30 (it's now 5.57) composing a reply to British Gas who finally dained to reply to my on-going two year complaint about serious overcharging. The weekend can only get better now.

  25. WTF is happening at #Guardian ? This insane Turtle Media deal, firing reporters and AI partnership with super-shady OpenAI.

And now this *horrible* framing. #BritishGas profits have actually returned to normal after OFGEM insanely raised the energy price cap in a #CostOfLivingCrisis to help juice their profits.

The CSP should come even lower. Profits should come even lower. THAT will help drive economic growth

  26. #BritishGas customer service is fucking attrocious. Their customer service email address is "not monitored". Their customer complaints address is "not monitored". But to deal with them interactively online you have to do it in hours (and you don't have an email trail to fall back on). I thought - on past experience - that they would be vastly better than EON Next who became incrementally ever worse. I was wrong.

  29. Gas mantles get very hot.

There are still British Gas employees whose job it is to light Londons remaining 200-odd working gas lamps. Imagine your job title is literally serial gaslighter.

(This gas lamp in Carting Lane, London was placed over a sewer in Victorian times to encourage stagnant gas to rise and escape through the vent.
    It’s the only one left which is still working.) #gaslight #gaslamp #london #sewers #history #britishgas

  30. Behind #Israel’s ‘end game’ for #Gaza: Theft of #OffshoreGas reserves

    By Betsey Piette
    November 14, 2023

"In 1999, #BritishGas (BG) discovered the existence of natural gas in the #GazaMarineFields, 20 nautical miles off the coast of Gaza, at a depth of 610 meters below the surface. Further exploration by BG through two successful wells — Gaza Marine 1 and Gaza Marine 2 — determined the field could contain up to 1 trillion cubic feet of natural gas. (EgyptOil-Gas.com, April 5, 2018)

    [Fast forward to 2022...]

"On June 18, [2022], Israel gave preliminary approval for the development of a gas field off the coast of Gaza, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claiming progress would hinge on 'preserving the State of Israel’s security and diplomatic needs' and coordination with the Palestinian Authority and neighboring Egypt. At the same time, Hamas official Ismail Rudwan told Reuters: 'We reaffirm that our people in Gaza have the rights to their natural resources.'

"Two months before Oct. 7, [2023], the Pentagon began building a $35.8 million troop facility in Israel’s #NegevDesert, 20 miles from Gaza, allegedly as a radar site to monitor for missile attacks on Israel. The base is part of a 'secret' U.S. military presence in Israel. (The Intercept, Oct. 27)

"Since Oct. 7, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has made it clear that Israel intends to kill as many Palestinians as possible in order to pressure others to leave the Gaza Strip and move to the Sinai in Egypt.

"Netanyahu has been adamant in refusing to order a cease-fire to let in aid to stop the horrific genocide being carried out in Gaza.

"The people of Gaza are well aware, as their grandparents experienced with the 1948 Nakba, that once Israelis forcefully remove Palestinians from Palestinian land, returning is a near impossibility.

"Israel’s genocidal war on Palestinians has not stopped the Israeli regime’s plans for further oil and gas exploration. On Oct. 29, Israel announced that it awarded 12 licenses for exploring additional offshore natural gas fields to six companies, including #BritishPetroleum and Italian energy giant #Eni. These awards show that Israel has no intention of letting the genocide it is carrying out against Gaza’s people interfere with its ongoing theft of Palestinian resources."

  31. ICYMI - From 2011: Secret memos expose link between #BigOil firms and invasion of #Iraq

Paul Bignell, Tuesday 19 April 2011

"Five months before the March 2003 invasion, Baroness Symons, then the Trade Minister, told #BP that the Government believed British energy firms should be given a share of Iraq's enormous oil and gas reserves as a reward for #TonyBlair's military commitment to US plans for regime change.

"The papers show that Lady Symons agreed to lobby the Bush administration on BP's behalf because the oil giant feared it was being 'locked out' of deals that Washington was quietly striking with US, French and Russian governments and their energy firms.

"Minutes of a meeting with BP, #Shell and BG (formerly #BritishGas) on 31 October 2002 read: 'Baroness Symons agreed that it would be difficult to justify British companies losing out in Iraq in that way if the UK had itself been a conspicuous supporter of the US government throughout the crisis.'

"The minister then promised to "report back to the companies before Christmas" on her lobbying efforts.

"The Foreign Office invited BP in on 6 November 2002 to talk about opportunities in Iraq 'post #RegimeChange'. Its minutes state: "Iraq is the big oil prospect. BP is desperate to get in there and anxious that political deals should not deny them the opportunity.'

"After another meeting, this one in October 2002, the Foreign Office's Middle East director at the time, Edward Chaplin, noted: 'Shell and BP could not afford not to have a stake in [Iraq] for the sake of their long-term future... We were determined to get a fair slice of the action for UK companies in a post-Saddam Iraq."'

Yes we use #Hive. We had British Gas install our previous boiler and kept it under a service contract for years but since our last boiler was fitted (by a different contractor) we have had no contract with BG. We have never paid for Hive plus.
All well till this morning when the house overheated. Thermostat still at 18.5.

  35. @lindasgoluppiart
I had years of problems with BG and even when I switched supplier they NEVER settled what they owed me. Happy to write that off to be rid of them. I'm now with Octopus, my bills are much lower and always right. Plus they don't hoard my money and not let me have it back!

I have a discount code somewhere, would you like me to try and find it for you?
