  1. BOYCOTT WORKS !

Lawmakers in a Massachusetts city have voted to pass a historic ordinance divesting from companies that contribute to human rights violations, including Israel’s ongoing destruction of Gaza.

The Medford City Council passed the Values-Aligned Local Investments Ordinance on Tuesday evening, making Massachusetts the third state — after Michigan and Maine — where a municipality has barred investments in companies that profit from a conflict many experts have now labeled a genocide.

“We are in a new era where taxpayers are not just concerned with the services they receive as part of a city and town, but also how city and town resources are impacting global issues,” Council President Zac Bears, the ordinance’s sponsor, said on Monday.

  3. @timnitGebru Boycott, divest, sanction Microsoft → bdsmovement.net/microsoft

"The Palestinian-led BDS movement, supported by Microsoft workers, calls on people of conscious to pressure Microsoft to end its complicity in Israeli apartheid and AI-powered genocide. To pressure Microsoft, boycott Microsoft’s consumer products whenever possible"

  4. Last night at Concordia University, hundreds of undergraduate students from all programs gathered in, and directly outside, the biggest auditorium on campus to approve or reject a motion to bring a BDS (boycott, divest, sanction) resolution to our Board of Governors.

The auditorium was overflowing so much that the meeting started an hour after it was supposed to. When it started, we voted on some pre-proposed ground rules to limit debate time. For context, at a Political Science Students' Association meeting for different pro-Palestine motions last November, Zionists filibustered for over three hours.

But that was just the dress rehearsal. It was obvious in that meeting that most of us didn't know Robert's Rules of Order, and the Zionists didn't seem to have them down either. They no doubt had spent dozens of hours since then brainstorming ways to be even more efficient in filibustering this meeting.

But it was all for nothing. Our pal Robert included a rule called "calling the question". At any time, you can ask to be called on by the speaker and put forward a motion to call the question. If it's seconded by at least one other member, it goes to a vote, and if it gets more than 2/3rds of the vote, debate stops and the members vote on the motion at hand (the BDS motion, in this case). This is the only reason the PSSA filibuster lasted three hours; That's how long it took us to realise we could just call the question (and rumour has it the guy who did it didn't even mean to; He thought he was calling the question on a frivolous amendment, not the main motion). We had this knowledge from the start this time.

So how long did it take us to call the question yesterday?

Zero seconds. It was the very first intervention. There was no debate, no proposed amendments, no proposed alternative motions, or anything. It was seconded instantly and got 2/3rds approval just as fast. The Zionists didn't even get a comment in (on the main motion, that is; They did weigh in on the ground rules just to make it clear that they would be wasting as much of our time as possible).

The vote for the BDS motion was 885 for, 58 against. A little over 15:1.

We weren't using our real names, due to paranoia (not entirely unwarranted, mind you) around Zionist doxing, so we don't know our question caller's name, but someone in a Signal group chat I'm in has given them the legendary title Maximus "Question" Caller. Legend has it he's still cutting through bureaucratic hurdles and messes to this day........ #Palestine #BDS #BoycottDivestSanction

  7. Courtesy of @daylightatheism, some cool news: Binghamton University becomes one of the first SUNYs to pass a BDS resolution! (BU is also my spouse's alma mater. 20 years ago they were protesting against Israeli policy towards Palestinians. Oh, how things don't change.) NYS legislators are already overreacting and reaching for state power to censor this.

  8. @KenWalkerQB Grim news. Can't believe I didn't get any hits for #BDS or #BoycottDivestSanction (perhaps there is something unsavory about BDS that I don't know about?), but I think that is the best approach to dealing with #Apartheid
