Macintyre’s work gives a sharp look at Harlan’s clashes with rulers and shifting politics. It is a strong read for history fans.

27. Who Hurt You, Cracked and Broken book 1 by Chelle Wolfe. This is the kind of dark romance I can get behind. Because apparently being a serial killer is fine as long as you are killing evil people. Don't judge me, the heart wants what it wants. She's the assassin taking out truly awful guys and she has a very terrible past. She merked a member of his family who deserved it. Together, they learn how to pick up each other's broken pieces. #MekaReads #BookThread

25. Stuffed by the Wereturkey by Tate McKirk. 13 pages of bananapants where he's a turkey shifter, but the bottom part stays human and the head is a turkey and she's a member of PETA and honestly just don't ask. Sadly, the opportunity for the title being 'Banged by the Butterball' was missed, but no one asked me. I am a marketing genius. #Bookstodon #bookThread

23. Summon Us by M. T. Adams. This book is what prompted my post about needing a dark romance mentor. Also my own fault as I DIDN'T read the 2 page content notes carefully enough. Basically, a cult ruined this girl's life when she was a teenager, and now she and her 4 guys are out for revenge. They are all unhinged. THIS IS NOT A GOOD INTRO TO THIS SUBGENRE! TW for...well, everything. I finished it today and I'm in my feelings and can't talk about it without flailing. #BookstoDon #BookThread

22. Dead Woman Walking, a Stalker romance by Lilith DeLuca. Here's where I start listing books out of order. This book is a deliciously dark book set around a Halloween festival. It is not at all what it appears but I'll just say that the why choose is definitely on point with three very different men. TW for well, mild stalking? Dub con, extremely gruesome. I gave it 5 stars and my review says I cried a little. The vengeance is top tier. #BookStodon #BookThread

21. Fixing Olivia, Fairford Affairs book 1 by Bay Sinclair. I don't read a lot of BDSM romances any longer but this one was quite delightful. Four Doms own a club that is a mansion because of course they do. Olivia believes that she is sexually broken because of course she does. But I didn't care because the heart wants what the heart wants. This was emotional and a lovely read. There is a spanking done out of anger in case that triggers. #Bookstodon #bookThread

20. Wings of Fire, the Last Phoenix #1 by Stephanie Mirro. Fun urban fantasy that takes place in Miami. Veronica is so much fun and she steals magical artifacts as a career. There are fun species, including a reaper. This made me guffaw in several splots and is a lovely edition to the urban fantasy genre. #Bookstodon #BookThread

19. The stalking Dead by Eva Chase. Notice my propensity for reading book one in a series and then forgetting about the rest? It's because I'm awful at keeping track. But basically, she's back in town after having been locked away in a mental institution. She doesn't remember what happened. And these guys are like old-time gangsters who are long-dead. They steal bodies and fun why choose ensues. Kind of gruesome but also delightful. #Bookstodon #BookThread

18. Marked. Hostage REscue Team #1 by Kaylea Cross. Romantic suspense where an architect has her plans stolen by a bad guy. I liked it pretty well. It's a second chance romance with Jake, a hostage negotiator. There's a Broody McBroodface character in here whom I know will probably get or already has a book. It was fast-paced. #Bookstodon #BookThread

17. Coldest Claws by Riley Onyx. The heroine is basically kidnapped to a world filled with monsters. It's a why choose. The hero literally considers eating her in the bad way when they first meet up. It's part of the Under series. If monsgter romance and dystopian books had a baby, it'd be this one. Do check the content notes of this. She offers to smex him up so she can live. #Bookstodon #BookThread

16. The Monster's Den by Jillian West. This book is mostly tons and tons of sexy times and I don't even care. I think she ends up with four mates. There is also pregnancy. I pretty much devour anything this author writes at this point. #Bookstodon #BookThread

📖 Now reading: “Weapons of math destruction”, by Cathy O’Neil. #BookThread 🧵

2. Zander (heroes at Heart #1) by Maryann Jordan.
A retelling of sleeping beauty. Almost DNF'd this book because Zander was a sexist asshole for no good reason and I dislike when men are that way in books. He redeemed himself, and I'm a very hard sell for that. story was sweet if not a bit rushed, but my heart didn't care. also AMNESIA trope!!Sleeping Beauty retelling.
CW for on-page assault, descriptions of physical assault.

Book thread.
1. Power of Five by Alex Lidell. This is what I will continue to refer to as why-choose romances, where there is more than one love interest and everybody gets to be happy. This book is about the fae and a woman who doesn't know she is part of that world. The writing was beautiful. I'm very new to this genre and still trying to figure out its tropes. First in a series and it endd abruptly. There is some spice.
