One of the mountain huts in my top 3 is being renovated: the Blüemlisalphütte (built in 1947). The new season will start this Saturday. There is still a lot of snow, so only accessible by mountaineers with the right equipment.
Have been reading a bit on the renovation and learned that on Hohtürli itself (50 meters below the current hut), there was an earlier hut: the Hohtürlihütte (second pictures has them both). Have never noticed it really, but can still see the remains of the Hohtürlihütte.
The Hohtürlihütte was built in 1894 and extended a couple of times (increasing the number of bed to 70).
But even before the Hohtürlihütte there was an even earlier hut: the Frauenbalmhütte (built in 1875), which had place for 7 people.
This means that next year there will be 150 years of mountain hut history on this special place between the Kiental and Kandertal.

Today I was able to capture two mountain huts in one picture. In the foreground you see the Doldenhornhütte (1'916m / 6,286ft) and straight above it on the ridge in the background you can see the Bluemlisalphütte (2'835m / 9'301ft).
It will take a normal hiker approx 5h30m to walk from the Doldenhornhütte to the Bluemlisalphütte.
