  1. mastodon.cloud is an abandoned server with open sign-ups, meaning that it's an easily exploited home for spammers etc.

they're now limited from blorbo.social. we'll probably suspend at some point, because it seems like the admins aren't coming back.

if you follow any accounts on mastodon.cloud, you might want to encourage them to transfer to a more actively maintained server.

  2. @scumsuck @ImpTwins actually we don't federate with baraag because their moderation against hate speech is ... not to a level that we're comfortable with. If their moderation against hate speech improved, we'd consider federating with them.

We limit media from aethy.com because sexual art of underage characters is prohibited by Australian law (I'm Australian). We still federate with aethy, it's just that our users have to click through to aethy to view any images etc attached to posts.

(We'll probably have to limit media from freaksonly.space too, but I've only just learned about them today so need to check it out a bit more to be sure.)

  3. Unfortunately a lot more servers are being hit by the spam wave.

    We've also limited:

    - mastodon-swiss.org
    - h4.io
    - wehavecookies.social
    - det.social
    - mastouille.fr
    - piaille.fr
    - bahn.social
    - elizur.me

I suspect the spammers will keep going on every server they find that has open signups.

  4. We've limited theses domains due to a spam attack:

    - cunnyborea.top
    - mxin.moe
    - social.cutefunny.net
    - misskey.kuromame048.net

(But we haven't limited friendsyu.me because they've addressed it.)

  5. We had limited mastodon.social, mastodon.online, and mastodon.world for a while, because they were having trouble keeping spammers out.

The limits have now been lifted, but we'll keep an eye on them.

Please keep reporting spammers and other dodgy content, if you're comfortable doing so.

  6. Blorbo users have been discussing whether to federate with threads.net.

We've decided to go with the option that most blorbo-havers seemed to favour, which is:

    - Enable authorized fetch, so that individual users can more effectively block threads (or any other server).

    - Enable individual users to follow threads accounts if they want.

    - Be ready to suspend or limit if things change.

  7. Blorbo.Social doesn't use or import federation blocklists from any other sites, and has no plans to do so.

When we initially set up, we referred to some public blocklists to identify the worst servers so that we could block them.

Since then, we block or limit on a case-by-case basis.

This means that there's a higher risk that our members might see bad stuff from other servers that we don't know about yet.

Please report any bad stuff you see, if you feel comfortable doing so.

  8. Mastodon.social is being hit hard by crypto scammers at the moment. I'm putting a temporary limit on the whole of mastodon.social until they can get it under control. Crossing fingers that they can resolve it soon.
