  1. On a recent trip to Thailand, our bird guide led us to a small stream at the back of a restaurant... Armed with our gear, including portable bird hides, we were of great interest to the restaurant patrons. Fortunately the star birds appeared, including this male rufous-bellied niltava (Niltava sundara), and we got our shots...and I'm guessing the restaurant patrons did too! 😂 January 2023. Doi Inthanon National Park, Thailand. #birding #birdphotography #birdsofthailand #BirdsSeenIn2023

  2. How cute is this collared owlet?, another unexpected encounter on my recent trip to Thailand. It's also known as the collared pygmy owl. These owlets have an occipital face, which means they have false eyes on the back of the head. Doi Ang Khang, Northern Thailand.

  3. Cuteness overload. A male blue-naped pitta (Hydrornis nipalensis). Despite the rather mundane description as a rotund, earthen-toned ground-dweller, it was well worth a change of itinerary, and an 8-hour detour, to try our luck at seeing this cutie. No, not mundane at all. Si Satchanalai District, Thailand.
