One of the commentators of my favorite political blog lost her husband today. He was in hospice care. She is at a bar having a drink. Her husband's favorite drinks were Jack and Ginger, B&B and coffee, Miller beer, and German wine. I opted for the jack and ginger. Fare thee well.

The Green Pet-Burial Society (GPBS) has reached an important milestone. Family Spirals®, the nonprofit organization that hosts GPBS, is now an independent 501(c)(3) charity registered with the IRS.

This new chapter makes it easier for people, businesses, and foundations to support our work as we expand education, advocacy, and whole-family ecocemeteries that honor both families and the natural world (see below).

1. We buried Chubby in a shady corner of the farm up on the ridge near the chicken run, where he liked to snuffle around and sit sometimes. #DogsOfMastodon #Bereavement

2. Drove in to General Santos City (20km) to clear my head. Was OK looking around the shops, but in non-stop floods of tears driving home.

3. Having cried myself to dehydration, am feeling a little steadier. I know I will be OK eventually. But there's a big dog-shaped hole in my heart.

By the way thank you all for the lovely kind words yesterday. They helped a lot.

Today’s Small Moment:
In the midst of losing my dad—and my brother just four months ago—I’ve been overwhelmed by how deeply simple kindness can matter. Friends, extended family, and even people I’ve never met have been a quiet anchor in these hardest days.

Grief has also shown me who steps forward and who stays silent. That truth stings, but it’s grounding. It reminds me to lean toward the people whose compassion shines without being asked.

This photograph came from a morning when I rushed up the Blue Ridge Parkway, hoping to reach Pine Spur Overlook before sunrise (several years ago). I arrived later than I planned, yet the light that waited there still found me—quiet and steady, much like the support that has carried me through these days. It might sound corny and cliché, but it’s true.
