Consciencieusement
Tu dois disparaitre des radars
Ceux des gens "bien"
Des gens "comme il faut"
Ceux qui ne chutent jamais
Qui triomphe toujours
Quel qu'en soit le prix
Surtout si celui-ci est dégueulasse
Ton humanité est à ce prix
Alors, chute
Chute encore
Chute mieux
Puis relève-toi -

FT on Beckett, Keanu and Alex Winter in Godot
"Like his approximate contemporary Bertolt Brecht, Beckett pared language down and reconfigured it into a strange new register to produce effects of absurdity and alienation: too intensely sincere to be ironic or parodic, but too bizarre and blasé to be tragic. You know someone is winking but you’re never sure if you’re in on the joke"

“If you think about Alien as the story of these individuals who are kind of powerless within a faceless, nameless system, I see them almost as [Samuel] Beckett characters,” he says, referring to the Irish writer whose work is typically considered bleak, impersonal, and tragic. “They're going to a place they don't know where, to do a thing they don't know what, for people they don't know who. And they're all expendable. So they too are kind of drones in a way, but drones who think that they're autonomous beings. And I think we all think that, certainly in modern times, that we're all bright, unique unicorns whose every thought is meaningful. And the idea that we are just food like every other animal, or a host for a parasite… yeah, it's creepy.” https://www.ign.com/articles/how-the-grotesque-creatures-of-alien-earth-were-made #film #Alien #Beckett

Tu connais ces six mots attribués à Beckett « Try again. Fail again. Fail better ». Attribués à raison : Beckett l’a vraiment écrit.
Ever failed. No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better.
« Better again. Or better worse. Fail worse again. Still worse again. Till sick for good. Throw up for good.

My next project! Chopin and Gwydion Theatres putting up 8 absurdist plays. The three I'm working on look intently at power, oppression, and censorship.
Come see a couple!

ENDSPIEL

I'm just thinking of Samuel Beckett today because it's that part of winter where it's gone on for what seems like a long time now.

Rehearsing for "Endgame" in London in 1964, Jack MacGowran wondered how to deliver the line: "If I knew the combination of the safe, I'd kill you."
He asked Samuel Beckett for advice, and Beckett said: "Just think that if you knew the combination of the safe, you would kill him."

'Waiting for Godot' is actually about two Parisian Jews waiting for their trafficker (another member of the Résistance) to get them to Italian Occupied Zone 🤯For precision's sake: "is actually about" as in 'subtext'.
I'm differentiating 'text' from 'subtext(-s)' and 'interpretations'."All the information is in the play - at least in the French original. But people were in denial about it."
