2022 was not a very productive year for me, but, in the light of a lot of talk about the Doctor Who centenary special, I enjoyed imagining what Doctor Who might have looked like in 1922, starring Eille Norwood (who, entirely coincidentally, was making a series of Sherlock Holmes films at the time).
Sadly, the BBC did not make the programme, on the flimsy grounds that TV did not yet exist.

The BBC's first regular transmissions started from the 2LO transmitter in the Strand in central London 100 years ago today. 2LO is the call sign given to the transmitter by the GPO who issued licences. On that first day was a news bulletin provided by a news agency and weather, natch. The following day the first children's programme. Formats evolved quickly. Celebrities arrived. Here are the Zitenfeld twins, famous channel swimmers from New York, in 1929.
