  1. Realized I once again neglected my normal Sunday morning #Barnscape and #Fieldscape pics, so just snapped some while mowing. Also, some ironweed and a sunflower, as a bonus.

  2. Missed my usual #MorningWalk photos on Sunday. So here's this morning's #Barnscape and #Fieldscape.

50/50 chance today of absolutely no rain, just heat, or a decent amount of rain and severe storms. Could go either way.

But the heat is promised no matter what. Lucky us.

  3. #MorningWalk this morning was pretty... gray, lol.

And the #Barnscape photo, for whatever reason, was pretty blurry.

So I've added a photo of the same view from exactly one year ago today. Much prettier!

Should be mowing out the paths again tomorrow. Will make the scene look quite a bit neater, lol.

  4. #MorningWalk was foggy and damp. Three things:

    1) The gradual soggying of my feet: had to wear regular shoes instead of rainboots & the dew was thick. Slowly, surely, I could feel the moisture wicking into my sock, begin clinging to my skin, working between toes, spread through the shoe. It was not until the end that feet felt thoroughly soaked. Could feel and even hear every squish squish.

  5. #MorningWalk was good except that the dog had no interest in our normal routine, so lots of stopping/starting.

    3 things from the walk:
    * human voices bouncing from somewhere in the distance. Probably a radio but not certain.

    * Birdsong loud and in stereo! But I didn't see many actual birds. Where were they?

    * First really good rain in a while overnight, knocked down some taller overgrowth around the barn, left the field looking very green and gold.

  6. Today's #MorningWalk photos since I missed Sunday.

    3 things:
    - Corn is tall enough now to feel like a wall. Neighbors cleared our field last week. Makes the whole field seem a different place!

    - tracks from the neighbors' tractors left patterns in the dirt. Reminded me of textiles. Pictured but probably not as convincing in a photo.

    - Robin's nest in the wisteria might be empty. Last few days had been open beaks of little ones, peeking above the rim. Not today.

  7. Ghostly barnscape, fieldscape, and bonus pics from our #MorningWalk (w/Winchester cameo).

  8. Clouds were being dramatic on today's #MorningWalk ---

    3 things we noticed:
    * Field now dense with fleabane (pictured) and tall grass, and still lots of field clover below. Quite pretty.

    * Dog wanted to investigate big impressions in a field patch. (Too hard to see if anything was there, so I kept him back.)

    * We didn't check in on the garden but could see and hear one of our red-winged blackbird friends perched on a t-post already this morning, chirping.

  9. Forgot to snag my #Barnscape and #Fieldscape yesterday, so here's one from this morning.

    Three things from the #MorningWalk:

    - neighbor's corn is at least three feet tall in spots, maybe taller.

    - milkweed blossoms have a much stronger scent than I recall --- stand of milkweed was smelling super sweet

    - could see a single, long strand of a spiderweb, stretched between two fenceposts, reflecting in the sun from something like fifty feet away.

  10. Three things on our #MorningWalk:

    * Milkweed is milkweeding (see pic). Budding, I guess? I should learn the names for different stages of the milkweed lifecycle. Tall as the tall grass and suddenly strong. Unpictured: poison ivy patch getting a bit out of control.

    * In the same area, near a portion of the creek, strong scent of citrus, weed, and a bit of mint. The mint is bc there is a huge patch of wild mint there, but the other smells --- maybe the nearby (invasive) honeysuckle?

    * Curious indentation in the tall grass, investigated by the dog, led to an unsightly portion of an undetermined critter, leftovers of some drama or some larger critter's dinner.

Curious dog made picture-taking difficult today. My barnscape and fieldscape photos are not quite in the same spot they usually are!

  11. #MorningWalk

Three things the dog and I noticed (not visible in photos):
    * large area of grass pressed down -- first thought was that it was clearly walked through. Second thought: seems too large for deer. Possibly driven on by a tractor? Hard to know sometimes what passes through the field.

    * Three red-winged blackbirds perched on t-posts along the barn, calling to us as we passed.

    * Milkweed patches are getting taller -- almost as tall as the grass at this point.

Fields are going crazy with this temperate weather plus decent rain, both the grass/brush and the corn.

  13. I haven't been as good about my #Barnscape and #MorningWalk photos lately --- it's been so cold in the mornings!

So thinking I'll add a few new views to where I typically take my morning walk photos. Here's one candidate -- a different view of the barn, not the most scenic -- along with some milkweed pods I was smitten by this morning, looking abandoned and forlorn.

  14. Good morning Mastodon!

    Here's a #Barnscape from our #MorningWalk.

Winchester desperately wanted to run in the snow, so we went up to my normal pic-taking spot. By the time I was done snapping this, he was ready to pack it in.

Another pic tomorrow will probably look very different. We're expecting another 3 - 5 inches, I think? (Hard to tell, but already snowing in the pic.) And arctic temps to match beginning overnight. Brrr.

  15. #Barnscape, an un-barnscape, and chickens getting up to no good.

The un-barnscape is taken from where I normally take my semi-regular barn landscape photos, but I'm turned around, 180 degrees.

  16. Photo from our morning walk. Would love to grab my usual #Barnscape photo but the snow is to deep in that area! Will probably try and get out there later this afternoon, when the wind is supposed to be a bit less dreadful.

Really struck by how the sky is nearly the same color as the snow.

  17. Today's walk featured 7 deer, not visible here, who were as startled by us (me and the dog) as we were by them. Big antlers on one. They darted off quick.

Nice sky this morning, great colors.

  18. First #Barnscape in a while -- in part bc it got too dark to do an early morning shot!

Startled some deer this morning, so got to see two white tails scamper off into the trees!

  20. Good morning!

#MorningWalk was pretty this morning! Staying dark fairly late these days. This was at about 6:33.

  21. Weekly #MorningWalk #Barnscape photos.

A bit of fog this morning. Dog was feeling antsy and it made it hard to get a straight shot. Portrait mode was at 6:38 = exact same time as the one I shared last week - the other was about a minute or two earlier.

Hard to see: but there are big patches of the fields now empty, as farmers around us have taken in their beans. Corn is still up -- probably will be harvested this week. But in the portrait/vertical photo, the yellow to the right of the frame is a section that was previously all soy.

The (very dry!) leaves of the soy plants that are left behind are like a pale, crinkly yellow carpet on the field. It's been so dry this year that they had already dropped most of their leaves before harvesting even began.

  22. Had to zoom way out to get the cool cloud cover this morning, so a bit of a wider shot (and way more field!) than usual.

But between the dramatic clouds and the sun just coming over the horizon, was quite the scene for a few minutes!

  23. #MorningWalk #Barnscape #CentralIllinois #Midwest

Not the most exciting scene today - color of the sunrise was more striking to the eye than to the camera, I think!

  24. Have realized I really like this spot and have started regularly snapping photos here, at least one a week, whenever the dog takes us this way on our morning walk. Coincidentally, this was taken at the exact same time as the last one I snapped last week, 6:31 am.

Fun to look back and see how the scene changes from week to week. The neighbor who knocks down part of our field and bales it came through on Wednesday afternoon, making for a very different scene that last week's photo.
