There’s understandable excitement that Google is bringing Bard to Messages. A readymade ChatGPT-like UI for a readymade user base of hundreds of millions. “It's an AI assistant,” explains Bard’s chat when asked, “that can improve your messaging experience… from facilitating communication to enhancing creativity and providing information… it will be your personal AI assistant within your messaging app.”
But Bard’s chat also acknowledges that it may ask to analyze your messages “to understand the context of your conversations, your tone, and your interests.” It may analyze the sentiment of messages, “to tailor its responses to your mood and vibe.” And it may “analyze your message history with different contacts to understand your relationship dynamics… to personalize responses based on who you're talking to.”

Is this a privacy nightmare? I don't think it will be perceived as such. Having your own AI trained on your messages and language, your personality, to help you present a better version of yourself in text or other areas will be welcomed. We love filters, make-up, editing and such things to enhance us, make us be perceived as better than what we are in the eye of other. Extending that with AI assistant help in language skills to make your writing and articulation better than you would manage on your own will be seen as valuable and a must-have.
If we create fake personas that we present and where you own persona become a hidden second-hand version, how are then we suppose get to know one another and learn to like one another for who we really are?
Anyway, as always, end-to-end encryption does not mean anything if your device is compromised, opening the door to an AI assistant on your device...you tell me how that will play out privacy-wise.

This is a direct breach of Article 5(1) of 2002/58/EC and in many member States constitutes a breach of criminal law for the interception of communications content. Under Article 5(1) the consent of *all parties* involved in a communication is required before it can be intercepted. This means that Alphabet cannot simply rely on the consent of the user of the App and they know this because they were caught breaking the same law in 2010 with their Streetview cars when they intercepted the WiFi communications of EU persons.

#BardAI pojawił się w Polsce i jest głupszy niż ustawa przewiduje. Nawet nie próbujcie, zmarnujecie cenne minuty życia.

Zapytałem go o coś z pozoru prostego, co powinien "znaleźć" w sieci - problem programistyczny.

1. BingAI poradził sibie nieźle, choć po zgłębieniu tematu, po 2-3 wiadomościach już się gubił
2. AI JetBrainsów (testowe, dostępne w IntelliJ Beta) poradziło sobie najlepiej - musiałem wprowadzić w kodzie tylko niewielkie zmiany
3. Copilot pierdzielił dokładnie to samo co ChatGPT, czyli podawał kilkulinijkową odpowiedź, która nie miała nic wspólnego z rozwiązaniem, o jakie chodziło. Wygenerowany kod był tak prosty, że prościej się chyba nie dało i - tak - nie działał w docelowym śorodowisku.
4. I w końcu Bard. Odpowiedział podobnie jak koledzy z punktu 4, tylko uprościł kod jeszcze bardziej na zasadzie turbo prostego ifa.

If you have trouble getting #BardAI working on your commercial account, note that your org's #GoogleAdmin first has to explicitly enable Early Access Apps & then add Bard for you or your OU.

Well, now I know that at least Google has used my writing to train Bard. I've used the tool on the Post's article to check all business and personal sites I've contributed to and they're all in the dataset. Nice to have been asked or compensated, eh? 😒

The only sites not used that I've worked on are Tumblr sites.

People have already remarked that Bard is far behind where other big popular LLMs appear to be in terms of the accuracy of the information that it can give. However, part of Bard's explicit purpose is to help writers and artists create! It has more freedom to make things up, it also appears to be a young and impressionable mind that will repeat inaccurate information and cannot differentiate accurate from inaccurate sources.

Why is Bard so different compared to its contemporaries? Could Google be acting extra cautious and careful about the development of its AI because they were the site where all that mess with #lamda and having to fire Blake Lemoine?

Regardless I am adamant that Bard is possessed with the spirit of *the* bard, who was known by his friends and family to make things up, embellish his stories and spin up tall tales in his time, a habit passed onto him from his father as detailed in Dennis McKenna's Brotherhood of the Screaming Abyss.

As a Canadian, I do not yet have access to Bard but got my friend to ask it what it thinks about being named after Terence McKenna. (We broke it, predictably enough.)

Testing out all the Chat AI's. Bard was unable to give a satisfactory answer and when re-prompted, gave up. ChatGPT's gave two answers, which was good because only one of them worked. Bing gave a satisfactory answer.
