After the first half of the Underdark we came upon the first big party member storyline, Shadowheart and her hangups with being a cleric to Lady Sharr.
Shadowheart's storyline wasn't the only one we did during our playthrough, and if I'm honest while it had some big impacts on the game as a whole, it's wasn't my favorite. Those will come in the form of a certain vampire and tiefling in the group...

You know while we're down here, there's this mystical arcane tower that's just brimming with energy waiting to be plundered, we should do something about that...
I remember getting to this point and learning about the chest that converts everything you put in it into cutlery, but that originally it had a bug where the items would also weigh as much as the cutlery, so it became this insanely efficient storage space, perfect for hoarders like me... Sadly it got patched by the time we got here...

One thing that has really impressed me with Baldur's Gate III since the moment I first booted it up, was just how many options are on offer when it comes to character creation. You have your classic set of natural and fantasy hair colors, of course, multiple face shapes, makeup options/colors, skin tones, complexions, you name it. But what I loved was the fact that you were also offered genderless body shapes, the option to pick literally any color for any thing, and even sliders for stuff like vitiligo! I may not have been interested personally in such options, but goddamn am I happy to finally see them be on offer for those who are.
I honestly wish more games simply had the option for stuff like this. Representation is important, yes, but player creativity and customization are just so powerful, especially here where you're literally creating a character, your character.

On the one hand, I'd love to return to BG3 in the future, but maybe only offline, as committing to an entirely new playthrough for another few months at a time just feels a bit much. I've thought about the mods that have come out since our playthrough, especially with all the tools that have cropped up and built out for devs to leverage. Custom stories, content, refined mechanics, all of it are intriguing but remind me of the time when I would spend weeks or months building out a Skyrim mod list, only to play up to Windhelm and quit over and over again.
On the other hand, I think the reason I want to return to this game series shows just how well made the game is, and returning would only dilute those feelings the longer I try to retread them...

Man, BG3 Act 1 was such a fun opener to this grand adventure. Outside of a few sequence breaks that we stumbled upon where we were politely instructed to return to the main path and come back later (read: beaten into submission because I can't DnD to save my life), the rest of the act was full of fun times and silly banter. 10/10 would play again.

This game was a blast to immerse myself in, but honestly it started to overstay it's welcome towards the end of Chapter 3. We'll talk more about things as we go along, but so far all we need to know is that we are Gith, we a Monk, as punch real good, and we got companions to make banter with.
Also Karlach, my beloved, we will soon be standing back-to-back, slaying our foes with reckless abandon!

#ScribesAndMakers 26: Who's your favorite vampire?
I was going to say no one, since I don't honestly think most of the vampire characters I know are all that interesting, but then I remembered Bodhi from Baldur's Gate 2: Shadows of Amn. As the sister and partner-in-crime of the greatest villain of all times (in my expert opinion), she could've easily been overshadowed but managed to hold her own, enhancing the mood of the game and creating a memorable challenge for the player.
