Stopped by Marina Beach Park in Edmonds the other day, and witnessed a couple of neighbors having a pole-ite argument.
I'd originally headed there in hopes of getting some photos of the Orcas that had been seen nearby, but by the time I arrived they'd moved on. The eagle on the post was a worthy substitute, and the other birds coming over to complain in person about his presence made for some fun photo opportunities. Given the combination of things (Bald Eagle, Puget Sound, ferry, swimmer, Olympic Mountains) it was a Very Washington day for shooting. Which was pretty great.

At the bald birb nest today, the eaglet seemed to almost be double in size since last week. Hanging out at the top of the nest while mom flew overhead.
Definitely only one eaglet in the second year for this pair. -

Sandor - #BaldEagle doing his annual ground nest building. He does it every Spring. Even though he's unable to mate or fly to build nest high up, his natural nest building instinct is still strong. He's been at #NIWRA for 25 years. I first met him, a few months after he arrived & was in very critical/near death condition. He made a great recovery but his broken wing never fully recovered, so he can't fly. He's a resident animal ambassador.

Today I saw 3 bald eagles at the nest. Both adults were there and for a brief few seconds a small fuzzy head popped up as I watched via my binoculars!
I guess that’s a “lifer” (if I cared about that sort of thing) because I have not spotted a hatchling that young before.
One of the adults flew off, but then returned about 10 minutes later to do another or finish the nest exchange while the other adult flew off to the usual perch on a tree about 30m away.

Seated eagle-old-I at the top of a tree—A spring wind

I stopped off after lunch to watch the bald eagle nest and there were two eagles. One perched at the top of the tree and the other in the nest. Apparently there are some hatchlings as well since 3/27, but I did not witness any feeding behavior while I was there. There was a moderate wind coming from the southwest, which indicates warmer weather.
In any case, I thought up this silly haiku that pivots the word for I (when used as an old man, which I feel like on a daily basis) and eagle, which makes it entirely too hard to...

Jackie & Shadow's second clutch of eggs have both hatched! (The first clutch broke/were eaten by ravens.) They hatched really close together, so they're a similar size, and both aggressive so far, so I can never tell which one is older. Both doing well so far, and getting lots of food and protection, of course.
