Badgers taking their revenge on irrigated golf courses in a drought
"Appearance: Black and white mustelid anarcho-syndicalists."
"Why do golf courses have wet lawns during a drought? The Water Use (Temporary Bans) Order 2010 permits exemptions for watering sports turf. That means that while you are carefully sharing your bathwater, your local golf course is hosing its lush greens."#badgers #golf #drought #HeatWave #GolfCourses #sport #wildlife #environment

Bad Badger. By Maryrose Wood.
You are a badger with a lot of self doubts, and when a new potential friend - really, your first friend ever - lands on your cottage’s railing, you enter an existential crisis such as only a badger could have.

No, Wisconsin doesn't have more badgers than anywhere else & it wasn't even named the Badger State because of the animal. Ok, yeah, in a round about way. Before WI became a state in 1848, as whites kept pushing Natives off their land, lead mining was huge in the SW part of the state. The miners, either too lazy or too poor to build homes, just started living in the caves they were digging. People started calling them badgers, which the miners liked. Hence, the Badger State.

#Badgers are nocturnal omnivores and play a vital role in the #forest #ecosystem. Their burrowing activity loosens the soil, aids in seed dispersal, and their setts create habitats for numerous other species. These ecological functions are well-documented scientifically and argue against blanket hunting as a "necessity." From @NABU perspective, there is no convincing reason to selectively reduce this #wildlife population unless a clear conflict exists.

🎩✨ Ah yes, the long con of #LLMs, a mere extension of Pascal's #cunning plan to trick us all with mechanical marvels since 1623. Who needs progress when we can just blame the badgers? 🦡🔮

I’m at my first men’s basketball game tonight. I have been to football, hockey, tennis, soccer, and women’s basketball, but never men’s basketball, and I have been around Madison for over 30 years!
