  1. "Mothers and fathers of the 43 missing students from Ayotzinapa marched on Monday along Paseo de la Reforma Avenue toward the Hemiciclo a Juárez, marking 136 months since the state crime that occurred on the night of September 26, 2014, in Iguala, Guerrero.

"During the march, the families took roll call at the Antimonument +43, remembered the missing and fallen students, and reiterated that the Mexican state continues to offer no credible answers or substantive progress in the investigation. At the political rally in front of the Hemiciclo, the voices of the mothers and fathers once again pointed to impunity, military opacity, and institutional simulation."

  2. #Denuncia ⚠️‼️🚨 #Alerta #CDMX.

  3. "Members of the Federation of Campesino and Socialist Students of Mexico (FECSM) threw Molotov cocktails and burned three trucks in front of the Palace of Justice in Iguala, Guerrero, on Saturday afternoon, 11 years after the disappearance of the 43 students from Ayotzinapa.

"At around 4:00 p.m., protesters surrounded the Guerrero Judicial Branch building in the municipality of Iguala, which concealed key videos that could have helped shed light on what happened on the night of September 26 and the early morning of September 27, 2014, when the 43 students from Ayotzinapa were disappeared."

  5. "Faced with such impunity, one might expect silence. But what emerges is the opposite: resistance. And resistance does not need a visa. It travels from Guerrero to Gaza, from the fields to the neighborhoods, from the rural classrooms to the refugee camps."

  9. Ten years ago today, 43 students from the Raúl Isidro Burgos Rural Normal School of Ayotzinapa were disappeared in Iguala, Guerrero, Mexico, by the municipal police, the army, and organized crime. Three others were killed that night when police opened fire on the buses the students were traveling in.

At the time, the disappearances encapsulated the violence, brutality, complicity, failure, and corruption of the state after eight years of the war on drugs, unleashing massive and militant demonstrations around the country, oriented around the slogan "Fue el estado" (It was the state).

Then-president Enrique Peña Nieto and his administration tried to torture, arrest, and lie their way through the crisis, offering up a "historical truth," claiming the students were killed by organized crime and burned in a nearby landfill. Their "truth" was quickly dismantled by experts. Peña Nieto left office as least popular president in modern Mexican history, in no small part because of the Ayotzinapa disappearances and attempted cover up.

Ayotzinapa also contributed to the victory of Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) and his MORENA party, who came into office in 2018 promising justice, truth, and accountability. In six years, and with just days remaining in his term, he has proven to be interested in just the opposite. As experts consistently point to the role of the army in the disappearances, AMLO has fiercely opposed the release of documents that might clarify what happened on September 26, 2024. The state knows what happened, because the state did it. Impunity continues to rule.

On October 1, Claudia Sheinbaum of MORENA will assume the presidency, and we can expect nothing different from her.

For ten years, the mothers, fathers, family members, fellow students, and society at large have demanded truth with justice. Ayotzinapa is an open wound, one that festers with the pain of all the hundreds of thousands of dead and disappeared in 18 years of a failed war on organized crime. One that is a constant reminder that the state does not protect, but murders, tortures, jails, and disappears.
