  1. How to use your character relationships effectively

Show who your characters are through their relationships. How we interact with the people in our lives, who we dislike, why we dislike them, who we love, why we love them, all define who we are.

  5. Do you need a prologue?

Prologues aren’t inherently bad, but a lot of authors use them to ‘cheat’ – revealing important information all at once, rather than hinting at it to build intrigue.

  7. So what is GMC?

Goal, Motivation, & Conflict. Your character’s goal is what they want in life, their motivations are what happened in their past that’s left them with a lack of something, and the conflicts are what gets in their way.

  9. While revising, keep in mind….

It’s not just about what your characters are feeling, but also what you want the reader to feel. Your characters might feel happy, but you might want your reader to feel suspicious.

  11. Personal milestone - received a cold call instead of an email scam, from a "Gee Cullen" in California asking about my latest book.

During the call I got the name of the site and looked it up. Key result below:

    reddit.com/r/selfpublish/comme

Victoria Strauss from Writer Beware then quote skeeted on another network to agree that this is most likely a scam, and to speculate on how they get people.

  15. How do you approach feedback? Approach both praise and constructive criticism with curiosity. Remember, no manuscript is perfect, and no advice is perfect; and no advice is perfect; it is all about how you question both and find a way to meld them together. Approach the feedback with the intent to understand it, not agree or disagree.

  21. There are three types of voice in writing: author, narrator, and character.

    Author voice = writing style
Narrator voice = the voice telling the story (i.e. POV)
Character voice = the way your character thinks and speaks

  24. How to make a satisfying ending

Even if you want to leave things open-ended or land on a cliffhanger, there should still be something conclusive for the book – whether that’s a complete arc, or a resolution of the initial conflict.
