  1. Personal milestone - received a cold call instead of an email scam, from a "Gee Cullen" in California asking about my latest book.

During the call I got the name of the site and looked it up. Key result below:

    reddit.com/r/selfpublish/comme

Victoria Strauss from Writer Beware then quote skeeted on another network to agree that this is most likely a scam, and to speculate on how they get people.

  8. How do you approach feedback? Approach both praise and constructive criticism with curiosity. Remember, no manuscript is perfect, and no advice is perfect; and no advice is perfect; it is all about how you question both and find a way to meld them together. Approach the feedback with the intent to understand it, not agree or disagree.

  20. There are three types of voice in writing: author, narrator, and character.

    Author voice = writing style
Narrator voice = the voice telling the story (i.e. POV)
Character voice = the way your character thinks and speaks

  22. How to make a satisfying ending

Even if you want to leave things open-ended or land on a cliffhanger, there should still be something conclusive for the book – whether that’s a complete arc, or a resolution of the initial conflict.

  23. To tag or not to tag your character’s dialogue?

Don’t tag every line of dialogue. Yes, we need tags in the beginning, but character’s speech patterns and action beats outside of dialogue should help us know who is speaking.

  24. Hey authors, how do you make your character’s voice standout?

Ask yourself: How has your character’s background, situation, experiences, changed how they view the world? What lenses color the way they speak and interact with others?

  28. Why is worldbuilding important in non-fantasy stories?

  34. Meet our editing familiars:
-The Raven represents knowledge, creativity, and expertise when it comes to manuscript editing.
-The Dragon is a fierce protector of your voice and so, making sure that the book stays true to what you envision.
-And the Cat is a supportive companion that is there to be your partner for the long-haul.

  35. If you could pick one of these familiars to be with you always, which would you pick?

When we think about how we approach editing, we found that there were three key aspects.

Every author should have a compassionate and insightful editorial team as part of their crew. From developmental editing to copyediting, we work with both indie and traditional authors to help forge their story.
