  1. I have a question about ADHD + Time Blocking.

(Time-blocking is when you book slots in your calendar for specific tasks that you'll be working on, preferably uninterrupted.)

  2. Being autistic and ADHD is challenging. Every day you feel your brain pulling you in different directions, from routines to chaos.

What are the biggest challenges for you?

  3. Do you use subtitles? I'm using them more and more when they are available? It helps me to keep track of what's going on, and I like that I can turn the sound down when if it gets overwhelming.

  4. Is it just me, or is the amount of “unknown callers” increasing exponentially.

PRO TIP: many phones have a setting called “Silence Unknown Callers” buried under Settings. Turn it to “On.

Anyone in your Contacts list will still get through.

  5. I frequently have to re-read the same paragraph over and over again before it sinks in. It is really frustrating, and makes reading a book take forever. It even happens when I’m listening to an audio book.

    Do you struggle with this?

  6. Watching the same show over-and-over again is one way I regulate the autistic side of my brain. But the ADHD side sure gets bored sometimes.

Do you watch any shows on repeat?

  8. It amazes me how much #adhd meds stabilize my mood. It affects my internal schema (as the professionals call it) and that leads to an extreme boost in self worth and self confidence and emotional regulation.

Maybe I can just see things more clearly and that gives space? #askadhd

  9. Okay. My girl and I just talked again. Just like I feared, I had a hard time putting in a word edgewise. She tries to explain topic A, and then there's something that reminds her of topic B, then topic C, then... and topic A is 39 steps removed from what she's talking about now. I pointed this out to her, and she said I was right. Some people, less patient than I am, got irritated at the way she goes from topic to topic.

We broached the topic of ADHD, and she says that other people have told her she probably has it.

I asked her to see a provider to help her with this. She agreed.

Actually, what should we look for if we want a provider who has a clue about ADHD?

    Thanks.

  10. It's like information gets stored in my mind but retrieval and remembering is smoggy. Seems like continually engaging with sources outside of my mind (reading, asking questions, learning, etc) is necessary to keep the cache warm.

    Anyone else? #adhd #AskADHD

  11. It is often hard for me to switch tasks. Especially when I get into a hyperfocus state. 🧘

I've always struggled to explain to others why it is so difficult. 🤔

“Tendril theory" by Erin Human explains it really well.

  12. My short term memory isn’t so great, so I will often find myself putting the same things off over-and-over again in an endless loop.

Do you ever deal with this?

  14. This post was catered towards teaching ADHD folks, but some of the comments & feedback have made me wonder about what other general barriers #ADHD folks experience when learning?

  15. Why hasn't #AskADHD caught on here? It should.

I loved this hashtag when it was used for folks genuinely seeking help and advice from other #ADHD folks. It became less useful as more folks used it to promote their own stuff, but the original idea was great.

  16. I keep a document running and record in excruciating detail my research methods for each project as I go. Helps big time with #ADHD memory and keeping myself organized.

I'm curious if other folks do something similar or have a better way for keeping track of their methods? I comment my code as much as possible also as a way to keep better track of my brain, but how about other folks?
