Some new people, so I'll mention it is helpful if you follow/tag the @ASECS group for c18/ #ASECS posts of general interest, especially cfp & jobs etc. Because of the way Mastodon works, "followers from other servers are not displayed" so there are people not on c18.masto.host following @ASECS who you can reach by tagging it (& vice-versa if you are on another server) I've been reposting some things to the @ASECS group, but the quote function on my app is kind of buggy.

Next week marks the 5th anniversary of 18th Century #dnd, my 1st ever DM experience, running a homebrew Strawberry Hill adventure for 17 players at #ASECS. Since the pandemic we’ve moved to biweekly sessions.

Tonight, after 15 months, they finished their 1st published adventure.

Okay, I hope I did this right. @carrideen and I asked our #ASECS director if we could create a Mastodon group before #ASECS23, so if you follow @ASECS and then tag it in posts, it should automatically boost your post to all group followers. Try it/share.

I know at least some of the #ASECSonMastodon folks follow me here: let me do a brief thread about the state of our conferences:

I just came back from a fine SCSECS conference in College Station, and what I'm seeing is a markedly smaller group, with some grad students, fewer faculty members and very few early career people.

Anecdotally, I'm hearing about a similar demographic split in attendance at #ASECS. Are others seeing this? And is it time to start rethinking 18c conferences?

Has there been any discussion about the "encouraged to wear masks" guidelines at ASECS? My institution "encourages" mask wearing and nobody wears them 😦

After years of one-shots (1st annually at #ASECS & then biweekly online) #18CDnD gamely took on a full campaign in 2021. Next time, they’ll reach the end of that adventure.

Not sure what comes next for these fictional & nonfictional 18th century PCs, but I’m glad to be their DM.
