Since I talked so much about Casio of late, I'll switch over to an #Armitron for the day.
I put the Griffy back to it's original configuration, with the "gold" bracelet, since I'm a fancy man.

I still think this is a fun watch. Those LEDs are nothing like a classic 70s watch but on the flip side they are highly readable in all light unlike actual watches of the era. In addition the case styling is one of the more interesting of modern/retro watches and does have more of those old school vibes.

These #Armitron Griffys are still quite fun, cheap watches. I prefer the Tetras but the Griffys are easier to come by and still amusing.

I think the Armitron Tetra might still be the favourite of my 'retro styled' LED watches. Yes those big, bold LEDs are quite different to originals from the 70s (which had small, slim and sharp numbers) but I am ok with that. It is a homage, rather than attempting to be a carbon copy.
The digits found here also hint at the other LED clocks found in many older home electronics, such as alarm clock radios and VCRs, thereby also invoking nostalgia for those that never saw or used 70s style LED watches.
In addition, while there could be debate over which style LEDs are more aesthetically pleasing, these have a usablity advantage. The big and very bright LEDs are highly readable even in daylight (not so the classic LEDs of old).
Some usablity improvements on retro watches should be permitted IMHO. Not allowing for any change is why so many Casio LCD digitals have almost unusable backlights.
Anyway, LEDs themselves aside, the case style on this watch is pretty interesting and so different than anything else made these days.

Well apart from the oversized LEDs it really it quite close to a classic #Armitron in looks.

As I tried the #Armitron Tetra with a leather strap, I felt like I should give the #ArmitronGriffy a try. This is tricky because the original bracelet connects with only 16mm and then flairs outwards, which is uncommon. Nonetheless I kind of like it. It sort of has retro-future robotic head vibe. 🤖
I also like that the black strap references the black crystal and the red stiching hints at those LEDs. Not as clean as with the original, gold tone bracelet but fun anyway.

So it seems the #ArmitronTetra beat the #ArmitronGriffy in my #WristCheck battle but it was close!
56% in favour of the Tetra (with 50 people voting).

Since it has a more normal lug width than the Griffy (Tetra is 20m, comprared with Griffy at 16mm), I thought I would try one of my leather straps on it to compare it against the original steel bracelet.
🤔 Probably not but since it was possible it was fun to try.

Ok I also picked up an Armitron Tetra LED now. I think I like this case shape slightly more. I went with silver tone because it gives me more bracelet options especially as the lug width is more normal

Still enjoying this #Armitron Griffy more than I thought I would. It was really just a "$30🇺🇸 what the hell, why not?" kind of a purchase.
Though in hindsight since the LEDs look absolutely nothing like the 70s originals, perhaps I should have just gone a step further and got the silver coloured one with green LEDs. I think that would look pretty nice and be even more readable in daylight.
oh dear, does this mean I need to buy another watch!? 😱

This is *clearly* a marketing video made (or commisioned by) #Armitron about their watches. However what they say is either true or at least it rings true and hence at the very least, hats off to their marketing team.
If this is indeed authentic, Eugen Gluck and Jean seem like they were pretty impressive people.
Anyway, marketing or not if you like #watches but do not really know about Armitron (still a family owned business), it is a fun thing to … umm … watch

Hmm… 🤔 I had dismissed it before because the stock photos looked too wierd but the more elusive #ArmitronTetra might be interesting after all. On the wrist of a reviewer it looks better than I would have imagined. The crystal is countersunk slightly which protects from scratching and it has more normal (20mm) bracelet sizing making replacements easier to find. Whilst I would imagine it has the exact same module perhaps its updated slightly as some claim it is brighter and clearer. #Armitron
