On my bike home from work yesterday evening I stopped to wade into the Heathcote River. 😄
An aquatic plant is growing by the Fairview bridge that I don't recognise. Auckland naturalist Stephen Thorpe (who was tragically murdered last month) thought that it was the weed tapegrass, Vallisneria. That's not yet known from Canterbury.
I've now got a sample for the herbarium to check the ID.

An aquatic plant is growing by the Fairview bridge that I don't recognise. Auckland naturalist Stephen Thorpe (who was tragically murdered last month) thought that it was the weed tapegrass, Vallisneria. That's not yet known from Canterbury.
I've now got a sample for the herbarium to check the ID.
