  1. On one of the Apple II hard drive images I downloaded to an SD card (for my a2Pico) I only today realized there was Mouse Desk in one of the subfolders.

Yes, the Apple II desktop ancestor from 1985. I'm still impressed that it was released about a year after the first Mac. It looks pretty good and is pretty responsive on a 1 MHz 65c02.

  2. My #AprilApples project, cleaning up this IIgs. It’s a ROM 1 machine, with an Apple Memory Expansion card, a Booti, and a #FujiNet adapter. Given how it started out rather happy with the result! #appleii

  4. Posting this for multiple reasons: while I did sell my Samsung CK4644 CGA monitor last weekend, I still have its twin (Imtec-1464w), which has the same case, controls, features and stripe width (think dot pitch but for slot mask) of .41mm. Just like the Samsung I need to open it up and clean up comically seized potentiometers plus the mono/color switch (a neat feature most CGA monitors didn't have).

The second reason was to share my favorite TUI of the mid to late 80s - AppleWorks 4.0 for the Apple II. Simple and intuitive and can be used with a mouse (though back then we didn't have a mouse on our Apple IIe clone, that card was expensive).

Yes, most people get back into retrocomputing for the games, but for me it's also the other software and utilities, partly because they worked even with fairly limited hardware.

  5. SUCCESS! Finally got the Macintosh 512Ke on #GlobalTalk ! I couldn't find a Phone Net box with a DB9 connector, and my attempts to bodge one together weren't working. Picked up a DB9 LocalTalk connector for less than $10. Now I'm ready for next year's #MARCHintosh , or #Apriltosh , or maybe #AprilApples (though I think LocalTalk only worked on the IIgs.)

  7. I am not sure why deleting a page break in AppleWorks for the #IIgs can reliably reproduce this error message.

But, I can say that I do love that I am presented with a second option.

("OTHER button" sadly does nothing. It would be even more entertaining if it did something.)

  9. Argh. My Apple #IIgs just decided to give me a scare. I switched it on and it wouldn't boot from any disk (BlueSCSI or FloppyEmu), going directly to the boot menu.

The boot settings were all as I'd left them (time and date, boot slot etc.), but I opened it up to check the ROM battery anyway.

My IIgs came to me with the old lithium cell cut out, and I've replaced that with a pair of AA alkaline cells. Don't worry, they sit on the floor of the case, can't ever leak onto anything.

  13. Some double-hires goodness on a VGA monitor (a2Vidga card), CGA monitor (Taxan 410-64 RGB card) and monochrome security monitor (composite output) all from the same Apple IIe.

All I need now is a cat on top of one of these monitors.

  14. A thousand times slower than my Apple Watch—and finicky to use.

But at least this Apple II can run 50+ more years with no cloud service required! youtu.be/AVec5Db_SRo #AprilApples

  18. Hoping to get into some #AprilApples fun with my Dad. I have the first computer he ever used (he bought it with his younger brother in 1979, and his brother's had it all these years until he sadly passed away last year). It's an original Apple ][, and I found out it still has the receipt, warranty papers, manuals, and full set of cassettes with software!

  22. For Saturday's noon eastern live stream, we're going to finish restoring an Apple IIplus for #aprilapples and work on an ultra disgusting Power Mac 7100 that I got from @gutbomb youtube.com/live/IoIwy_EmofU?f

  24. TIL that there’s a new A2FPGA card that supports HDMI video, sound, and serial for the Apple II (including the IIGS video modes)!

    reactivemicro.com/product/a2fp

This means the Testbench Tower of Power’s gonna need some upgrades soon…
… the A2FPGA itself, for my IIGS to be able to output to HDMI
… a second ADB-USB Wombat, so the IIGS can share the keyboard/mouse with the IIfx and Mac Mini
… an HDMI switch, so the IIGS can share my testbench monitor with the IIfx and Mac Mini
… an HDMI audio splitter, because my testbench monitor doesn't have a speaker built in

and then, not only will I finally be able to experience IIGS gaming in colour, I won't have to sit on the floor to use it anymore 😂
