Here I was last night, insistent on sitting outside the neighbour's house, after I snuck out while my human was sorting the bins. No snacks or treats worked for getting me back inside for the night so I stayed out to play while my human gave up and went to bed. After I had my fun, I cried and whinged outside the window at 4am to be let back in. Aren't I just a delight ✨

Back to work after a week off. Time to dig out of the inbox, and catch up on everything I missed. Sometimes I think returning from PTO is the worst part. Not because I don't want to go to work (i really do enjoy what I do for a living) but because nothing actually stops while you're gone. Its probably worse for folks with more dependencies riding on them, but its still not great even at my level.
But first, my Macbook has to give me grief. I use a dock, to connect to two external displays, and the laptop itself sits with its lid closed. I had the audacity to shut it down when I logged off on Friday before my PTO. This morning, not only is there no way to turn the dang thing on without pulling it out of the little shelf its in, but... That dock it spends 95% of its life connected to? The one that gives it all of its input and output... Yea, I have to allow it to connect, which means holding the laptop on my palm while i turn it on, wait for it to completely boot, login, and then plug it into the dock and click.. Allow, before I can use my keyboard, mouse, and displays. Seriously. I get it, malicious devices are a thing. but the dock i use all the dang time?
Sigh.

Duolingo, a freakin’ casino, it takes more time to open the chests and watch all animations than completing the practice.
I always have my phone in silent mode, Duolingo violates that and play more sounds than the tivoli roller coaster
Advise: you should focus on your core business.

Ah, #blogging, that ancient art of stating the glaringly #obvious as if one has discovered the Holy Grail 🏆. Thank goodness for bloggers who bravely inform us that pop-ups are annoying! Next, they’ll reveal that water is wet, and the sky is blue 🌧️🌌.

Luke Willson is the pimple on the ass of the #CFL.
It was bad enough when they gave him multiple sideline segments every game last year - at least I could mute the TV during his segments. And yes, I absolutely did that.
This year they have him in the booth as a colour commentator. I can't easily mute that.
#TSN, I don't know how you managed to do it, but you're making me pine for the days of having Paul LaPolice in the booth. I didn't think that would be possible. Hell, I'd take Rod Black as the colour guy over Willson.

When a web site asks me for MFA from sms or authenticator app. Is it really so hard for them to activate the text box that I have to type into?
How many times ive typed my code, looking at my phone, just to realize I didnt have the text box activated.

Listening to DAB and they are currently playing Voodo Chile by Jimi Hendrix, and the display says it's Voodo Child. Grrrrrr. you'd expect a classic roch channel to know its correct name.

Sigh, I'm struggling with a Thing I don't like in my life, friends, but I can't change it. Well. Not immediately (unless I'm willing to face some really unpleasant consequences, and I'm not).
I can work towards changing said Thing but that will take time, and meanwhile, I need to be OK with the status quo. This is unsettling and annoying because I've really reached the end of my tether with the Thing.
I need to focus on radical acceptance/gratitude/what good I have in my life over the next few days. Currently I'm journalling, writing lists of 'things I love and are good in life', spending time with my favourite folk, planning some gardening...
any other tips will be greatly appreciated. This is taking up a lot of energy and it's demoralising and sad.

I was contemplating who is more #annoying: a) the person insisting you should use a #LLM for this or that task, or b) the person that insists you should not use LLMs for any task.
I think it's the second. I find it equally annoying that idiots online want to police what tools others use, but I largely agree with group b, which makes their annoying holier-than-thou attitude unbearable. -

You know what really grinds my gears? When I look for #Fortinet memes but all I get is #Fortnite memes :blobfoxannoyed:.
Sometimes I hate modern search engines trying to guess what they think you really meant. I need a good old lexical search for images that includes the whole web regardless of license. @Mojeek only does free licenses using Pixabay and OpenVerse. Which is often great! But sometimes not lol.

I live next to a guy with a Harley. The bike is solid. The music? Absolute garbage. He cranks it like we all signed up for a concert nobody wanted. I didn’t ask for surround sound suffering at 7pm. Keep the engine, ditch the playlist. #noise #music #neighbors #motorcycle #annoying

#Firefox just keeps getting worse.
I don't know exactly which version this started with, but for the last few months Firefox has been a #CPU hog for me. Even when not interacting with any browser windows, the CPU usage of various processes - the main firefox #process, the content-sandboxing #processes, the WebExtension processes - will be taking significant CPU in bursts. There's frequently an Isolate... process using ~100%, and the main process will sit at 90% for a while before jumping to 160%.
It's significant enough that it makes actually using the #browser #annoying. Pauses for one or two seconds while typing or scrolling as it does ... whatever it's doing while chewing CPU, and these happen every few seconds. Like 3 or 4 times for each line I'm typing in this window right now.
There's nothing obvious to account for this workload. There are no videos playing, or animations, or sound. There are no continuously-updating pages or web apps running. I have uBlock Origin (adblocker) and Privacy Badger running, which significantly reduces the amount of work the browser does because there's no ad scripts to screw around in the background. The only thing I'm actively doing in Firefox at the moment is typing this toot. And yet still it pauses constantly.

Just clicked over to reddit to check on a few subs that have always been fun/valuable…. 3 of the 5 most recent posts in my feed, that I clicked to read, were AI. So frustrating. The folks on there who are clicking through & looking at accounts and reporting back “they're shilling their app" or "account is only 40 minutes old and posted to 50+ subs”, etc. are heroes. What a waste of time. #ai #reddit #annoying

I miss a lot of concerts lately because of money issues: live music is too expensive and it's getting worse every day. So: I appreciate very much when people record the whole show and post it on their Youtube channel. What a bless! Many of them are getting pro, with very cool audio and they make sure that the show looks good on video. Totally a win-win thing. I can enjoy the show in my place with good sound and quality, and they earn some money with their Youtube views. BUT:
COME ON... what do you earn recording a song (or half of it), while dancing, with your shitty phone? Shitty audio, shitty photographic framing, not a bit of corcern to make a nice video... Besides, that video will remain in their hard drives like a speck of dust in an abandoned house. They'll never watch it again. NEVER.
Concerts should have some kind of strong restriction with phones/cameras; they are annoying, they bother the people behind you, and sometimes a few "geniuses" record with the flash ON. COME ON!!
What should be done? What do you think, people?

When I went to the IHOP website some time last year, the menu was fully accessible. Then, they changed it, and I had to use an old version from the Way Back Machine. Now, I went to the modern site again, and they are still inaccessible. After searching several sites, I finally found one that had the pdf. But I would need to open my Windows 7 virtual machine, open Openbook (ocr scanning software), load the pdf, convert it, and only then could I start reading the actual menu. Of course, I would also need to use the find command to get to the various sections, since it's not html and I can't just click on a link or go to the various headings, so that would take more time (usually, the last doesn't bother me, but it just adds more inconvenience here). So I just settled for a sampler, because my parents don't have all day to either read the menu and have me choose, or sit and wait for me to do all of the above. This whole thing took only a few minutes when the actual site was accessible. Am I missing something here, perhaps with using NVDA?
