Last #ClassicalMusic listen tonight is another recent album, the cellist #AnastasiaKobekina's "Venice."

Although the album feels anchored by its baroque pieces - Monteverdi, Vivaldi, Dowland, Bach - Kobekina has interwoven a range of 20th and 21st century compositions including Britten, Caroline Shaw, Valentin Silvestrov, Brian Eno, Gyorgy Kurtag, and others. The diversity of periods feels very natural and at times quite exciting.

There's also just a really nice mix of stuff here in terms of tempo, style, and even setting -- from larger ensembles to a duet arrangement of Faure's "Les berceaux" for cello and guitar.

This was a great night of listening, with three recent records to return to very soon!
