  1. @kyonshi They haven't been too central to the discussion, because most early plastic soldier makers matched the metal soldier scales.

I have purchased some #Airfix figures just to measure, though, because they're influential in the development of 20mm and 25mm scales.

  6. Bit of a left field move from #Airfix and it makes a change from Spitfire-109-sherman-etc and I hope it does bring the joy of model making to folks who might never have considered it. uk.airfix.com/flowers

  11. One of the pages on my #BattleOfBritain site seems more popular than I'd expect, even for a relatively notable event (first Messerschmitt brought down on British soil) and one I've covered in detail with some field research: battle-of-britain-diary.org.uk

I was checking some logs today and found the reason, this particular aircraft has been included as an option in the decal sheet of an #Airfix kit: uk.airfix.com/products/messers

  16. Another one done, the Airfix 1/48 Supermarine Seafire FR.47. This aircraft flew with No.800 Naval Air Squadron, Fleet Air Arm from the carrier HMS Triumph during the Korean War in June 1950.

One of the neat features is the contra-rotating props, although on the model they are stationary.

A few small issues going together although generally really happy with the way it looks.

  17. Starting to look like a fighter now. Decals look pretty good, white is opaque over the camouflage and still very thin

  18. Always the moment of truth, remove the tape and check did the paint run?
A few spots to touch up but overall not too bad

An interesting paint scheme for the Airfix Seafire FR.47, this one flew in the Korean War in 1951 #scalemodel #avgeek #seafire #royalnavy #airfix

  19. Another kit finished, the Airfix AW Seahawk 1/72 scale. It's an older kit, the moulds date back to 1957(!) and it shows. Still, it's a really pretty looking aircraft. Had a few issues with decals, the "ace of diamonds" on the side is practically translucent but it looks ok in the end.

  20. I’ve made a bit of progress on the next kit, the Airfix 1/48 Supermarine Seafire FR.47. This one will be in Korean war markings from 1950, it should look good with the folded wings.

  21. This is a fun build. The Airfix DH.88 Comet kit dates back to 1958. Bloody hell. The cockpit is literally a flat section with two blobs for pilot heads. I cut it out and made a basic cockpit with some plasticard.

Hopefully one day we get a new mould, interesting little subject.

  22. First kit of the year nearly done (I started last month 😉)
It’s the Airfix Hawker Hunter FGA.9. Managed to make a few rookie mistakes but for an old kit it looks ok. The new 1/48 kit looks quite good though…

  23. Calling this one done. It’s the original Airfix Beaufighter TF.X kit, a bit simple but doesn’t look bad for a 1958 mould!
Did wheels up as I’m thinking of a simple diorama display base to show it flying low over the water #airfix #scalemodel
