The Hanagurise Rock is a gigantic basalt. The sea cave, with a height of 200 meters, resembles a monocle, which is why the locals call it Megane Rock

The Ainoshima Stone tumuli in the southeast are a graveyard. A total of 254 tombs were discovered during research. Unlike other ancient tombs in Japan, which are covered with soil, the entire Ainoshima tomb is made of stone.

Hidden little shrines and Taikō Shioi’s Stones.

The legend says that Toyotomi Hideyoshi stopped by on Ainoshima on his way to Nagoya. He piled thousands of stones and prayed to the Thousand-arms Kannon statue for victory and safe sailing.

If you just stay in the village for the cats, you will miss out on some amazing spots and wonderfull nature!

There is the Dragon Lord Rock. The locals treat the rock as an object of worship for the God of Water named Hachidai Ryūō.
The Tōmi Guardhouse Ruins.
And views of nature!

The one road that is going around the island is not really used.
Exactly one car passed by and it was from the local water company.

Most of them seem to be living close to the harbour, as they are getting fed and getting petted by the visitors.
But there are some also all over across the island and if you pass by, they gonna meow until they get attention.
Others are really very well hidden in the shadow of some plants or in the middle of the road.

As it had an air temperature 28°C today or around 40°C in the sun, the cats were chilling in the shadows.

Also know as "Cat Heaven Island" is one of the Japanese cat islands (yes there is more than one).

The cats were brought to the island to get rid of mice by the fisherman.
Currently there are around 230+ cats on the island which has around 280 human inhabitants.

You can get to the island in around 20min from Shingu Port.
