  1. Hi!

I work on stuff between digital culture, hacking/engineering, ancestor work, and eco-social justice

Besides that, I like inline skating, making beats, and gardening

Currently I’m working on a project called Kite Node - which is a kite made from natural and reused materials used to hoist LoRa devices into the air

"A bit of background about #BigTree

Around 2018, I started developing Big Tree (original title is #YatMadit), which is set in a world where every village is autonomous and enjoys a high level of self-sufficiency, manufacturing any tool or device in their backyard. I recently learned that this is #solarpunk! This idea came after years of intense daydreams about a future without central governments or politicians, where thousands of people are co-presidents and every citizen is a parliamentarian, and they govern themselves using a digital technology modeled on decentralized social media. After recent events in Nepal, where protests led to Nepali using Discord to elect a new prime minister, well, it validates my imagination and makes me believe that direct democracy can thrive in our world.

I’ve written two short stories set in this universe, and you can read both online for free. Yat Madit, published in #Africanfuturism Anthology and The Gray Girl, published in Lowle Magazine. A couple of months ago, I finished a novella, as yet unpublished, and it nicely fits the solarpunk genre. If you are the reading type and donate $20 or more, I’ll send you a copy! The novella helped me clarify the world of the film, but of course to depict such a future needs a lot of visual effects. So I made many short films to learn CGI, including Little Red Eve (2025), which revolves around the villain in Big Tree, and it helped me figure out how a key visual effect that will drive the plot. You can watch the trailer here (everyone who donates gets a link to watch it). In 2019, I made Akoota, but failed to depict a futuristic village. So Wind will enable me figure out how to transform a present day village into a futuristic dream."

  17. #BlackPanther

    By Ryan Coogler, 2023

"Black Panther is a #solarpunk, #afrofuturist superhero film that helps spark discussions about three aspects of climate literacy: access to #NaturalResources, especially #RareEarthMetals like the fictional vibranium; the interconnectedness of #RacialJustice and #ClimateJustice, including one’s responsibilities to other people and nations across the globe; and the role of #GreenTechnology, including urban design, to create a #sustainable, just, and #ecological civilization."

  19. Oya doesn’t arrive to punish—she comes to realign.
In “Love and Pain,” her winds mirror the way heartbreak clears our emotional space for something more honest.

  22. Musical Interlude: Jake Blount's recent CD is a fascinating concept album about the religious practices of a group of Black climate refugees after a series of future environmental disasters. Yup, this is Afrofuturist music, although not utopian. Blount is a great performer; I've seen him live a number of times.
