Greens MLA Laura Nuttall wins fifth and final seat in Tuggeranong-based electorate of Brindabella https://www.abc.net.au/news/2024-10-25/laura-nuttall-wins-final-seat-in-act-legislative-assembly/104501108 #ACTvotes #auspol

It’s hard to shake a first narrative (Greens “failure”). But as in previous post the story is more in the votes than the (fifth) seats. (Greens now looking likely to win 4 seats.)

We had government and community members work collaboratively to step into the gaps created by economic inequity and social isolation during COVID-19, making sure that families could put food on the table, our older people and those with health conditions and carers were less isolated, and making our community a kinder and more compassionate place.
Thanks Canberra. It’s been real. Hope to see you around in future.

🧵 This weekend saw the Democracy Reset Button pressed. And when we turned the Assembly off and back on again, I’m not part of it.
Over the course of my four years in the Legislative Assembly, I got to be part of some really important changes that only happened because we had six Greens MLAs.

#ACTPol this is the site to watch for analysis of changes to ACT election results: https://kevinbonham.blogspot.com/2024/10/act-2024-postcount.html?m=1 . Election was a bit of a nothingburger with only 2-3 seats changing hands and essentially zero evidence of the widespread rejection of the 23 year old Labour government that some had imagined. The Greens were the major casualties in seat numbers but there wasn't even a big vote swing against them; their seats were just the most marginal going into the election. #Canberra #ACTvotes

There’s an interesting Greens related swing story in the ACT election. The Independents for Canberra swing is mostly about Emerson in Kurrajong with about 10%. There were swings TO the Greens of about 2% in Ginninderra and Yerrabi.

So, light rail to #Tuggeranong (and beyond!) when?
If gets as close as Woden and stops I will be vexed.
I feel we've had enough elections where this was a central issue that we can stop talking and just build it now.

Antony Green shit talking Pittwater on national TV is just *chef kiss* #ACTVotes

If US voters find a non-compulsary, first past the post system hard to fathom then #ACTVotes - with a compulsory multi member proportional representation system will blow their minds.

Labor's getting a bit cocky in Brindabella about the Liberal's "It's Our Turn" message in the absence of presenting a serious alternative.
-
The #ACTLiberals having another normal one:
"Peter Cain, the ACT’s shadow attorney general, has apologised “wholeheartedly” for a 2002 workbook he wrote which does not mention the frontier wars and paints a rosy picture of how Christian settlers helped First Nations peoples.
One exercise talks about the “unfortunate things that happened” with colonisation then asks students to discuss how Aboriginal people have been “blessed” by the British coming."
1. Is there a more pointless political party in Australia than the ACT Liberals?
2. With two of their MLAs in Ginny now disgraced, will the voters who shift go to an Indie, Greens or Labor?#auspol #ACTGreens #ACTLabor #ACTvotes

For those who are a bit jaded, and reckon all political parties are the same. Think again.
After mining, the most corrupting influence in politics is property.
So, for those following #actvotes in #canberra, the Property Council have given the #ACTGreens a massive backhanded complement; they are hosting a 'leaders debate' but only between #Labor and #Liberal !
No Greens even though they are in government, and have three Ministers some of whom have portfolios that inform the property sector.
The Greens are clearly a threat to the spivs in the property council and that is a good thing. Lab and Libs are in their pockets.
