  1. What the blazes is going on in our #EducationSystem ? Is this another example of #Managerialism going wrong?

“Dr McNeill was appointed CEO in June 2025, but while applying for the role, did not tell the CIT board she was under investigation by TAFE NSW for "serious misconduct".

The controversy sparked the public inquiry, which led to an assembly committee making seven recommendations and 11 findings, including that Dr McNeill should have disclosed the information about the misconduct investigation to the CIT board in a timely manner.

Dr McNeill told the committee that she had sought to disclose the investigation to CIT during the recruitment process but had been advised on multiple occasions, both verbally and in writing, by TAFE NSW that she was not permitted to do so. “

  5. Lovely morning at Mawson with Andrew Braddock, Sam Carter, and my friend Emad.

And I’ve run out of flyers thanks to some very pleasant post-stall letterboxing on this fine Sunday.

If you also want to see north Tuggeranong and south Woden friends jump on light rail from Mawson park & ride or bike & ride, reducing cars on the road by thousands more each day, you can sign the petition here:

  6. ACT has two new “voices” groups: #Belconnen / #Gungahlin and #Canberra, styled as #communityIndependents. The latter featured in today’s Canberra Times.

I have explored things “voices” for many years and maybe should write more about it one day, but ... First, I think it’s a good thing. Second, it may be little understood these groups are not bottom-up. #ACTPol #AUSPol

Links to both organisations in reply.

  7. I find it astounding how we have absolutely no Charismatic leadership from either the RSL or Politicians about why Universal human rights exist and why ‘Rules of Wars’ exist, and the history of it all.

The fact we have ‘Rules of war’ denialism - in this country is astounding, and that the denialism perverts parts of the ADF, including the SAS.

Australia has been a significant beneficiary of both Universal human rights and ‘Rules of Wars’. Sadly we also have a history of being antagonists in the development of modern international law.

    Lest we forget.

  11. No leader is ever above an institution;
Nor are they ever above an ‘Office’ of an institution.
If they are, the organisation is no longer an institution but rather a private enterprise.

If allegations are true, this is a deeply grave breach of conduct against the Institution that is ANU, as well as the ‘Office of the Vice-Chancellor’.

A ‘Vice-Chancellor’ and their power resides in following the rule of the institution and the office. It is not a blank cheque to do whatever you want.

    This is basic management 101:

  12. Proposed redistribution of ACT federal electorates has dropped.

    - Lyons, Curtin, Hughes and Garran move from Canberra to Bean
    - Molonglo Valley moves from Bean to Canberra
    - Norfolk Island moves from Bean to Canberra

    - Mitchell and Crace move from Fenner to Canberra
    - Hawker, Weetangara and Macquarie move from Canberra to Fenner

Edit: northside changes corrected as I got them back-to-front

  13. @treleanor there was an email newsletter from her with a little more detail:

“We moved a vote which will now see the R2 and R3 reinstated out towards Kippax, Spence and Fraser and the R4 and R5 frequencies improved.

We still won't see these changes until around Term 3 this year. That's why we need your help to keep the pressure on Labor and make sure they follow through on the promise they've made today.”

  14. I assume the organisers of the Canberra Writers' Festival are praying to all the festival Gods that ACT Labor and/or ACTPol take offence and crack-down on something in order to provide a similar boost in patronage. 🙏

  15. Political dissent will ALWAYS be targeted by the state, using the tools they claim they put in place to "protect" the oppressed.

    The master's tools...

Police seize art posters depicting Trump, Putin and Netanyahu in Nazi uniforms from Canberra bar

Owner calls it ‘ludicrous’ Dissent Cafe and Bar was shut down after complaint, the first in Australia’s capital since new federal hate symbol laws

Police have seized art posters from a Canberra music venue and bar that depict world leaders and others, including Donald Trump and Elon Musk, wearing Nazi uniforms, and are investigating whether new federal hate symbol laws were broken.

  17. Media Conference:

… I don’t think the individual Police officers are the problem. I think the larger organisation needs to be scrutinised further about its training, and what it deems ‘appropriate’.

The ‘active incident’ in a general area does not excuse the heavy-handling of what occurred on a peaceful, incident-absent bus.

As consequence, an innocent person was injured AND traumatised. This should be considered heavily.

  18. Very disappointing: The racial profiling. The lack of due process. The lack of professionality. The lack of dignity and respect for the ‘suspected’.

What on earth is taught at Police Academies in Australia?

  19. Police and Welfare checks:
“In their darkest moments, too many Australians are being met with lethal force instead of love and care.”

    theguardian.com/commentisfree/

I agree with pretty much everything … but the conclusion.
Police should be the first responders. What we are seeing is the failure of a militarised Police force and providing Police Executives, Police Union and Ministers an excuse/escape instead of making them admit failure and reforming the Police force.

  22. Chris Steel was censured regarding the MyWay+ rollout after the report from the committee was tabled in the assembly. Greens MLA Andrew Braddock moved the motion.

Canberra Liberals leader Leanne Castley threatened future censure motions if CM Andrew Barr did not keep his ministers accountable.
