3/ this art critic & I would not see eye to eye on a lot. I was mad for a while. I suppose I still am. I probably stopped following him (but it’s almost always a good idea, no matter who it is, to stop following an account of someone you don’t know). I only make #AbstractExpressionist art and it’s my primary interest in art and probably always will be. The fact that the possibly most known current art critic thinks the point of abex was being part of a movement is proof the work is still needed.

Writing positive science fiction lurks among my many creative dreams. Unsure whether I’d rather envision a fantasy community with kinder structures than ours from scratch; or chronicle a transition from enshittified to cooperative.
Solution? Write multiple permutations. Get on it, Rob!

“Neurodivergent” — what does it mean to you? Is it so all encompassing as to be meaningless? That’s the nature of umbrella terms. I believe it’s most accurate to view human traits on spectrums not either/or. “Sensitive” folks are imo the canaries in the coal mine of human civilization. If you’re not noticing something, if you’re proudly multitasking your way to success, you might also be having trouble sleeping. Or suffering digestive difficulties. Or developing other stress related Issues that are as yet unseen. Someone like me, I start talking about the aggravations of my environment as soon as I sense them.
I made three posts today on Facebook trying to lure friends away! This post is one, only slightly rewritten.
I’m reminded that I’ve always felt sensitive to advertising, while others are adept at tuning it out. I remember when ads first exploded on sports broadcasts (yes it was once a much calmer viewing experience) & when perpetual motion began to accompany all newscasts. I found it all disorienting. I grew up with my face to the media firehose—I consider mass media as much an influence on who I am as anything else—and I began my retreat away from it very early. It hurts me. It’s painful, psychologically, psychically, & physically. I’m allergic to insincerity. Now, I happen to think the same things I’m hyper attenuated to are corrosive to society. I think the callous that we each build up to protect us from harmful mass communication is what prevents us from cohering as one people...
I get raw, bad anxiety feelings in certain online venues. I can understand that others don’t or may consider it the “cost of doing online business.” The primary reason I want to move all of you to my preferred networks is that it vaguely ~feels better~ there! I’m currently reliving my HUMANISM show. In the artist statement (see attached post) I make the “radical” connection between my art & humanism. How is what I do a political act? Most statement art is very direct in its messaging, a fact I feel ambivalence over. Much of it I like, it feels good to see positive values reinforced and to fight oppressors unambiguously. In such an environment my art has no place. (Literally. I’ve never been asked to be part of any statement-themed show, despite being a screaming gay, left liberal!) The radical act of #abstractexpressionist #art is that it doesn’t tell you what to think. That’s it! In my view it’s necessary to start that basic. ”The way things are” feels already set in motion & unstoppable. To change we must first see change as possible. Doing that requires respect for human thought & human difference. That’s what I try to teach with my art. I feel we have not even established the basic principle that all humans are worthy of respect, with our differences intact. Without that foundation I do not believe collective progress is possible. And I think that’s why the world is as it is.
#humanism #artist #neurodivergent and btw #woke just means respecting others
